summit brand lifters??.....
well.. my truck with my new rebuilt 429 in it developed a dead miss and a rocker making a little noise.. so I thought no biggie a valve is out of adjustment.. well I pulled off the valve cover and sure enough one of the rockers was loose so I adjusted it back down.. started the truck... no noise but still had the miss.. well I investigated further and found that a lifter was stuck.. and had wore down one of my cam lobes.. this is a summit brand cam and lifter set... 218 228 503" 503" ... any way has anyone experienced trouble with summit brand lifters before? is there a warranty on them??? and im goin to order a new cam and would like something a little bit stronger... any suggestions??
thanks..

There are only a couple of companies that manufacture lifters. Summit, CompCams, etc. all buy their lifters from one of those sources.
When I flattened a couple of lobes on a cam, it was a fight to get any consideration from Crane. I sent them the cam/lifters and they said I didn't use enough break-in lube on the cam. I lost.
If one of your lifters stuck, maybe that lifter bore might have a problem. That's not all that uncommon on 25-30 year old blocks.

YES I dont know if what george is saying is right or wrong. I really find it hard to beleive. But anyway I had a comp cam with summit lifters and had the same problem only it was 7 lobes/lifters. I put a new cam and comp lifters in and it broke in fine other than all the steel through the engine I replaced crank and all. Comp has more than 1 part number for hydralic lifters. Summit would sell the same for any hyd. cam I think thats wrong and a costly lesson.

I myself and many other people i know have used a Comp Camn & Lifter set with good results both initially and long-term. I wouldn't suggest and/or consider any other brand personally. It can't hurt to try to get something from Summit, but I would be willing to bet you will be S.O.L.

ok.. what kinda lift and duration numbers should I go with on my next cam... my 429 is a 68 model and stock except for an edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 750 carb, and 2.5" duals.... and completely rebuilt with a 3 angle valve job... the cam I had was 218 228 503" 503" and you couldnt hardly tell it had a cam in it.. im looking for something with a little more lope to it... and still make good horsepower and torque numbers... what do U guys think?

Most cam and lifter failures come from improper break-in of the new pieces. Was the motor run for 20 minutes at no less than 2000 rpm when first started? It is ok to shut it off during this time, but don't let it idle until it has run at least 20 min above 2000rpm because you will not get enough oil splash off of the crank to properly lube the cam lobes.
There are only 2 lifter designs for a Ford V8, The FE lifters, and the all other (except 4.6/5.4 OHC) V8's. 302 fits 460. 460 fits 351 etc.

The exhaust on stock heads flows 125-135cfm at .500 lift and .600 lift, so you won't realize much of a performance gain going over .500 lift without porting your heads to increase the restrictive exhaust flow. If you're just after that loping sound at idle, go up in duration and lift based on what the catalogs describe for idle qualities. I wouldn't go over 5500rpm with the stock valve train.

The CompCams 270H is the biggest recommended cam with an automatic. But it requires longer pushrods because it has a smaller base circle. I use the CompCams 268h. Stock pushrods, but I did change the springs because the were old and I didn't want any coul bind. It has a mild lope when warm, more when cold. It makes alot more power than the stocker. I used CompCams cam, lifters and springs along with an Edelbrock double roller timing chain. It runs good.
