flashing theft light

Need some help...My red theft light flashes continuously after the expy starts. After about one minute it cycles through two slow flashes then five rapid flashes. It eventually stops. The truck runs fine. Also, three days ago my odometer went out for a few seconds and then came back on. It did this two years ago and I re-soldered the bad connection on the back of the instrument panel (as outlined in this forum). I have not had a problem with the odometer since. Idon't know if the two situations are related. Any thoughts? Should I run a HEC dealer test?

The two shouldn't be related. I did the odometer fix on mine also and I don't have a problem with my theft light.

I did the HEC dealer test and it threw dct code d147 which is "SCP Invalid or Missing Data for Vehicle Security". Anybody know what this means?

I can't find that code in my list. I think what I would try is disconnet the battery for a few minutes the reconnect it and see if that clears it

I wouldn't do what madson is suggesting. What if you can't start your truck due to the glitch in the anti-theft after you reconnect your battery? I would find out exactly what that code means before trying random "solutions?"

^As opposed to having the truck not start at all which should be the case when the theft light is flashing?

If you are really dependent on the vehicle starting each and every time, I'd take it to a dealer.

It's likely a network communications glitch between the instrument cluster and the PCM. Either may be the source of the fault.

A dealer has the proper equipment to diagnose and repair.

FWIW, you're lucky (so far) that it even starts with this type of issue.

Thanks for the replies. It is greatly appreciated. One more piece of info. The flashing theft light doesn't always happen. It's inconsistent. I've been trying to find a pattern (cold v warm engine, cold v. warm day....).

Update: Ever since I did the HEC test with the odometer, the flashing red light condition has not returned. Maybe something was reset?

another update..this morning my car would not start. Lights flashed and it sounded like several relays were clicking. I tried my second set of keys...no go. I disconnected the battery, waited, and tried again. Nothing. Pushed it out of the garage (great workout!) and towed to dealer. The result.........a bad battery cable harness and $300.
