If a little piece of plastic or aluminum made a big difference in performance and/or fuel mileage, with the never-ending competition between Ford, GM, Dodge, etc for the upper hand, I'd expect it would be there as part of the original design and build.

It's a bummer when you plop down your cash, all excited thinking you are about to get something really good, and later realize you might have just wasted your money.
