v-8 swap?

Quick question for you guys, if there is a thread or tech article on this please show me the way... Otherwise, how hard is it swap a 302 into an early I-6 Bronco? Will it bolt up to the existing trans? I'm not too worried about exhaust/plumbing/wiring. Just curious, I may be doing a swap for a friend. Thanx!

There aren't any tech FAQ's for the early Bronco. There has been talk for quite a while to make something up.

You will need to buy V8 engine towers to weld into place. They are readily available through the Bronco specialty shops. You will need a V8 bellhousing, and a V8 transmission along with the corresponding transfer case adaptor (or a good time to upgrade to a 4 or 5 speed). The 6 cyl transmission will not hold up to the torque of a V8. You also need the clutch linkage from the frame to the bellhousing.

Radiator, throttle linkage...

HTH,
Jason

Thanks for the input. We're not looking to anything too radical here. It appears Ford only offered 2 transmissions, the 3spd manual and the c-4 on later models. They used the same d-20 t-case on all of them. I don't know if the c-4 was offered with the I-6 or not, but the same drive train was used in both v-8 and I-6 models. Only difference is the length of the intermediate shaft and housing due to the length difference of the 2 motors. same length d-shafts, same x-member, etc. Sounds pretty easy to me. I guess the c-4 intermediate shaft adapter is pretty rare and or expensive tho. Thanx again.

The auto only came behind V8's. So there is only one adaptor for it.

There were 3 different versions of the 3 speed: the 6 cyl, the light duty V8 and the HD V8. Which means there are 3 different intermediate shafts and adaptors for them.

From the transfer case back, they are the basically the same. There are 2 different transfer cases with different shifter types and gear ratios. They will interchange as long as you have the corresponding shifter.
