Terry, that reminds me of one a friend of mine here built. There is a yearly competition put on by Grassroots Motorsports magazine called the $200x (x = year of each competition, started in 2000) Challenge. You must build a complete car with a documented cost of less than $200x.00 based on a production car, bring it to FL and compete with it in a 1/4mi drag race, autocross, appearance/engineering judging.
His car was a Mustang body grafted to a Toyota Supra Chassis with the Mustang 289 engine and manual tranny. The combination was surprisingly easy as the M & S had almost identical WB, track width and F-R overhangs. He called it a Suprang. It did not win due to tranny failure during drag race competition but he brought it to several local AXs, it was fast and handled very well.

Hey AX, that sounds COOL, you got any pics? The reason we did it on a Mustang chassis, is I wanted to keep it all FORD. I made a mistake on my F100, and I dont want to do it again. The biggest problem we had, was when he got his new wheels off an 03 Mustang, they are 17x8. The '95 up cars were 2" wider in the front!! Which was really noticeable. We thought about fender flares and all kinds of goofy stuff, but finally found out that an older FOX body had narrower A-frames, which pulled the wheels in a total of 3 " now the wheels set under the fenders! I had to cut the strut tower and lean it in to get the camber back, but that was no big deal.

The car is commin along great now. Maybe we'll have more pics soon?

Sean documented the build quite thoroughly, start here:
http://suprang.com/
He used the Supra chassis to get the better handling IRS and better balance for AX.

I Like your truck I am very interested in that conversion

I'm using a late 70's 460, C-6/NP205 out of a 79 Bronco (although I am debating about using a NP435 4sp manual tranny).

For axles I have a rear Dana 60 out of a 1969 F-250, and I will be narrowing a Dana 44HD out of a 1977 F-250 to fit under the front.
Hi I like that extra cab 4x4 I was wanting to do the same to mine, Do you have more info that you could give me ? 3fordf1 THANKS.

Well, depends on what you questions are. The best thing I can say is look through my gallery, I've tried to document as much as I can there. Also know that its not a very easy project (bout 4 years into it) and I've done a lot of learning trial and error as I go. If you have any specific question, feel free to email/PM me. Also, you can read through some of my older posts (do an advanced search for posts by me) they will give more details on the project.

I've seen it - has to be seen to be believed!! Some people are CRAZY, MAN!!!

I understand Terry's going to graft a Yugo on a Borgward frame, next...

frame swap

Yes, I have successfully done a Bronco frame swap.In the late 90's I put a 78 Bronco frame and drivetrain under a 56 F100.Took me about 6 months weekends and evenings including the bodywork and paint. The guy I sold it to is still driving the truck to this day.I also have done numerous frame swaps. And found the bronco frame swap to be easiest one I've ever done.I don't find frame swaps any more difficult than adding late model steering, brakes, engine mounts, gas tank mounts, etc.I don't know why you guys always think it's so hard doing a frame swap.I wish I knew how to post pictures. But if you need any info I can pm you with all the details on doing the Bronco frame swap.
However that being said the truck will have a very rough ride when your done.
The 56 body is a little light for the Bronco suspension.

Thank you for replying. I checked out your gallery and the truck you built is what I want mine to be. You did some very nice work! Please pm me any info you can give me on the swap. And how did you stretch the frame and do you have any pics of it? And do you have anymore pics of the swap if you do let me know and I will pm you my email address.

A rough ride is not an issue for me. I'm use to driving 3/4 and 1 ton trucks for my daily drivers. This is a 4x4 I don't expect it to ride like a Lincoln!

Ok here's a side shot of the truck Herman built:

Here's a chopped pic that is a rough guess of what it would look like on a stock Bronco chassis:

It looks different but I don't think it looks too bad.

3fordf1 its a little more complicated with the 48-52 trucks compared to the 53-56. The 48-52 has a narrower front frame (32" vs 34") and the front track width is also narrower.

Here is a diagram of a stock 48-52 truck:

This is a diagram of a 48-52 with the newer frame:

I wonder how that 53 on the Econoline frame looks like. The Econolines had a 37.5" frame front to back compared to the trucks with 34" front and 37.5" rear. The vans also had wider axles.
