Its a dirty or malfunctioning IAC valve is most likely your problem.

I'm sorry i meant 4.6L. Anyway on a 4.6l it is located on the drivers side of the throttle body under the 4.6l triton plastic cover. The cover has 3 8mm bolts that hold it on. then there it is. It is round on one end and has a type of triangle mounting flange wit 2 more 8mm bolts holding it on. It also has an electrical conector on the round part. You can clean it if you want with carb or brake cleaner to remove the carbon deposits from the inside, but it most likely will fail again. They are about 40-60 dollars to replace if you want to go that route. A 4.6l is much easier than the 5.4l by the way. I hope this helps you out... Good Luck.

Jimmy, that's a good pic of a 5.4l IAC. I wish I had looked at it before I told my neighbor that I would change his for free on his 5.4. My 4.6l is different though. I've replaced them on both motors and the 4.6 is much easier because it is out in the open away from the firewall.
