Flooding diesel?

I have an unusual (to me anyhow) intermittant problem with my 1996 7.3 PSD.

Every once in a while when trying to start it cold it acts like it's getting flooded. I have to repeatedly heat up the glow plugs and when it does finally fire it blows white smoke for a while. White smoke comes out the intake before it starts also.

Anyone experience this or have thoughts?

Thanks in advance

yep, glow plugs. Spend the 35 bucks and get em replaced. Drive and smile. That is if it only does it when cold and has sat for more than 8 hours.

I replaced them last year and the problem continues.

It only happens when the motor is stone cold.

Maybe your relay is shutting to quickly and not letting them heat properly. Hard to tell without seeing it. All glow plugs light? Did you do a wire test?

if your glow plugs are working when you turn the key and wait for the wait to start light the volt gauge will be pulled way down a lot. when they kick out it bounces back. my bet is it is the relay or the ground wire for them

he says it oly happens sometimes, whcih leads me to believe he has a one or two dead plugs. Otherwise it would BARELY run at all on start up.

EBPV has been removed.

I can hear the relay and the voltage is definitely down. I will check the wiring to the relay. I replaced it several years ago but maybe it is going to hell on me again.
