Semi-Free 2.9L Engine

Neighbor has 89 BII that has been parked for several years due to leaking trans seal somewhere. He is letting me pick it for parts for my 87 BII (4x4 2.9L). If he gets ready to tow this beast to the dump should I harvest the 2.9 engine? Are they valuable enough to pull and store for future use? How hard are they to remove? Any tricks I need to know?

Keep the whole thing. park it, in your backyard or if a relative owns land, put it there. They wont mind.

No, but, if it is low miles, then go for it. If it is 100,000+ don't bother.

If both trucks are automatics, then grab the transmission, so you can rebuild it at your own pace. If a standard his probably has the FM-146, that would be nice to have along with the starter and flywheel.

Certainly grab

1) all the axle shafts in the front end (pass and driver)
2) front prop. shaft
3) spindles
4) hubs - both sides

These cost some money at junk yards and can be hard to remove at a whim and you can easily break them on the trail.

5) all exterior lamps

If low miles, grab the switches in the column (wiper, direction, ign). Certainly grab the CPU ! and fuel cut off switch.

Knowing what we know now thanks to a user, I would grab the fuel pressure regulator/filter cannister next to the gas tank.
