I have an '86 truck with the original 302. The intake has the twin throttle bodies. I have an upper intake off of a 90's truck. It has a single throttle body, and it folds over the opposite way. It's a little different, but I was wondering if I could bolt that up to my engine, to replace the old intake. I need to replace the upper intake gasket. So, I was thinking I could remove if completely, and replace the entier upper intake with this other one. Then, I could paint it really nice, and put a cone air filter right on the end of the single throttle body. Would this work? Does the newer style intake flow better than the old one?
None of the trucks had single throttle boddies except the lightning and 5.0 explorer, and if that is what you got the runners are totally different and will not match your lower intake. The 5.0 truck intake has large rectangular runners in a sraight line front to back, while the Ligntning/Explorer/GT40 intake has smaller round runners in a staggered pattern.
I was told the intake was off a '90s Ford truck. I guess it wasn't off a standard pick-up as I assumed. Sorry about that, and thanks for the clarification.
