I'll measure as soon as I can find something to measure with, but doesn't the RBV's use a crank shaft spacer? Seems I remember reading something about even the low stall F-38LS havin a 3200 rpm flash hince the reason of usin the F-40 V-8 converter. So couldn't you just use the A4LD crank shaft spacer that has the larger .825 pilot or "nose" over the smaller .750 F-38 opening? Or are there other differences?

Thats what I was afraid of. I don't have access to good cross reference and I have to take the few specs I have listed on one site and try to apply it to some incomplete specs on anther site. So I guess what your saying is the "nose" or pilot is the larger 1.375 diameter that would require turning down and reblancing the converter?

The tranny site I've been using lists the converter numbers as F-??. But the specs are incomplete. The auto parts store site I've been using has some bad info and has part numbers for the converters as FM??(?) but more specs. No wonder there is so much bad info posted on sites these days. I went through all this when I was doing mine and just gave up and used the F-38 converter. The 6.25 bell housing number you gave is a 157 tooth V-8 bell number. I'm not sure that it applies in this case as I said that there is a crank spacer used. I have a c-5 burried out in the back with the RBV bell housing on it. This 70's c-4 bell I have measures 6 11/16. These are the only two bell housings that will connect the c-4/5 and the 2.8, 2.9 and 4.0. If you know of a site that lists the full specs of "all" the Ford torque converters that would be a help. I would think it would be more difficult to rework the spacer and flywheel (and rebalance the fly wheel) and maintain centers than it would be to have the nose of the converter turned down and rebalanced. But I don't know if you can turn the nose down that much or not. I would use the A4LD spacer though with the larger .825 opening if I was going to try it.
I have found places that I can get the F-38LS. But the "nose" is longer and may need some work on the spacer to fit. And I'm not sure I'd get rid of that 3200 rpm flash. If you can give me any help on that it would be great. As I will need to go through this again in the near future.

I received your pic's. I think the only difference in the crankshaft spacers are the hole for the pilot or nose of the converter. You should be able to find that out as you have both. And I did use the C-5 Flexplate with the C-5 RBV bell housing. Wish I had a site with all the measurements listed below for all the C-4/5 tranny's

Using the old school defenition of BAD...my BII is really bad! In fact it is a total peice of SH&T! Hope some day that it will idle, drive, stop and do 4x4 tricks. So far it keeps quite a few pine needles from making it to the driveway. I'd post a picture but the camera keeps snapping shut whenever I point it at the truck!
