Nissan Struggles, No More Titan?
I wonder if they really will discontinue the titan??? Its pretty sad that they can't even out sell the ranger which has been around forever and hasn't really changed in 15 years.

I can see both it and the Ridgline fading away. When I bcought my truck, I considered all Full sized trucks except the Titan. Any line of full sized trucks needs to have more choices (standard cab, long bed, etc). I also didn't want to support a foreigh government that owned a portion of the company through Renault.

Datsun, not Toyota, originally made Japanese vehicles popular in the US, especially small trucks. They just plain "lost it". Changing the name was only one dumb move.
Maybe after Ford stupidly stops selling Rangers, Nissan can redo the Frontier with a little turbodiesel and get the market back that they started. The Titan, from those I know that have them are the most gas-thirsty "half ton" out there. Not good with todays fuel prices.

Nissan tying up with Chrysler? Nissan badged Rams? Hemi powered Titans? Boy, that would be a mistake on Nissan's part.

Renault owns 33% of Nissan, and by Japanese standards, that gives Renault controlling interest. Renault, who has failed twice selling cars in the United States has never understood how vehicles are marketed here, and so...spends next to nothing on ads.
When the Titan was introduced in December 2003, sales were only 7,000 units shy of the projected sales mark of 100,000 units for model year 2004. Ads for the 2004 Titan were slim and none, and slimmer yet in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
The 2008 models have been in showrooms since May. How many ads have you seen? How many ads have you seen the mention that 2008 Titans can be bought with 8 foot beds on King Cabs, and 7 foot beds on Crew Cabs? I have not seen one..on TV or in printed form.
Renault also spends next to ZERO $$$ on ads for Armada's, Pathfinders and even Frontiers. When was the last time you saw an ad that mentioned Pathfinders can be bought with the Titan V8? I saw one...6 months ago.
IMHO, the Titan is a far better truck than the new Tundra, which...btw was just named Truck of the Year by Motor Trend. It's also a better truck than the GM twins, and the Ram.
Here comes the flame attack = I also feel that the Titan is a better truck than the F150. I bought a new 2004 Lariat when they first hit the showrooms. It isn't a bad truck, it just isn't up to the standards of F150's from 1996 and earlier. Crappy brakes and crappy transmissions have plagued F150's since 1997.
Over the past 42 years, I've bought 7 new Ford trucks and two new cars = a 1979 T-Bird and a 1983 LTD. Besides the 2004 Lariat, not one ever had a Warranty Repair - not one. I owned the LTD till just recently. It had gone 167,000 trouble free miles, and would still be a runnin' if some idiot...not paying attention to her driving while talking on a cell phone, hadn't totaled it.
My 2004 Lariat has had...so far, 10 Warranty Repairs in the first three years I've owned it. 5 warranty repairs were for the brakes, one was for a bad headlamp switch. The transmisson died after one week. It has now been back to the dealer four times to fix the damn transmission and it still does the whee-oop (slips) between gears.
I took it into the dealer after 7,000 miles for its 3rd new set of front brake rotors (out of 5) to correct brake judder. The Ford dealer's courtesy van was broken down somewhere west of Laramie (prolly a bad trans), so to kill some time, I went next door to the Nissan dealer.
Yup, you guessed it, I bought a 2006 Titan Crew Cab...and it's been trouble free since 12/29/2005.
My Lariat is on loan to my nephew after his 1997 F150 was stolen. When he got the Lariat, it only had 17,000 miles. So far, he's had the brakes fixed once. Bad rotors AGAIN! The trans seems to be holding up...so far.

How many Titan owners do you know? One? Two?
Many of the ppl who have bought Titans are lead footed 30 somethings, and so are hardly ppl to ask about what gas mileage they're getting.
Since the Titan is faster than a striped azzed ape, it's hard for even 60 something geezers to keep the right foot oughtta the gas pedal.
I can tell you this, the Titan's gas mileage is horrible around town...almost as bad as the underpowered F150 5.4 is. It's better than the Ram...dunno about the GM twins. On the highway, the only time I checked the mileage, it was 18.7 MPG...better than my F150 ever did. I live in the foothills, so meebe my city gas mileage analogy isn't fair.
A long time friend and fellow ex Ford partsman couldn't believe I bought a Titan. Until I showed him the title, he thought it was another one of my test drive vehicles I rent for the weekend (I test drive around 30 new vehicles a year).
My buddy has a 2007 F150, so I handed him the Titans key, and said...take it for a spin. When he returned he only said one sentence..."WOW...this thing puts the F150 to shame!"
