yes the ford regens more, yes the chebby gets better MPG(less weight/smaller tires), yes my man has a biger package to push, yes, yes, yes, ....
a few may remeber a test in DP mag, chebby and ford MPG. the ford got like 12-13 and the chebby killed it with like 19-20. i made a post that something was not right at the time. low and behold they do a test with a gas chebby and the very same duracrap truck.
guess what? the diesel and gasser got the same 10-12MPG. very similar the the v10 and 6.4 powerstoke that get similar MPG now.
you do the math.
its not all its craked up to be. its all fun and games until somebody loses an eye.

It makes me laugh when people get their feelings hurt when thet get told that the 6.4 is a dog turd. Ihad a job1 for 6 mo 17k mi and my mileage sucked. my job 2 is 2mpg better with the dpf torn off and kemperformance tune to shut off regen. I get 13 on the highway empty. good as all 7 of my 6.0's. in town empty I get 8.5..lame. w trailer I get 7-8 in or out of town. Crappy too. At least with my setup It runs really good, my job 1 would go about 35 pulling only 6500 lbs. 3.73 gears f350. I like ford , but this motor mpg makes me think ford engineer shave their heads in each others Removed... Words like this will get you time off too..Admin. I've spent half a million dollars on ford trucks in the last ten years. The cub scouts could build a better motor than this. D**N RIGHT, I'M A TROLL!!! HA HA HA HA HA........

So far I like the D Max a lot and don't regret it at all. The only thing I don't like is the small 16" wheels. They look kinda ugly and out of place but that's easily changed. I'm glad to know the mechanics you know have good things to say about it. The motor is made by Isuzu so I figured it should be reliable and hoped the Allison would live up to it's name. So far so good.
Good luck with your truck and your business!

Past Transporter
Thanks for the input from the professional haulers... This is a great way to obtain real info... I used to transport trailers for an RV transport company, so all my info is real world been there done that. I used to haul trailers from the factories to the Dealers... anything from 6,800 lb FEMA trailers to 16,000 5th wheels. This was a couple of years ago with my, at the time new 04.5 HO Dodge Cummins, 4x4, Dually, six speed with Edge tuner and I would never get under 8 mpg pulling the larger loads. Depending on terrain and average speed... I would generally pull around 75 mph. If you pull at 60 mph and stay out of the boost, you take forever to get somewhere, but you save a lot of fuel, and safer, but you have to kind of fudge on the log books. When I pulled FEMA trailers, a bunch of us would pull together with all different kinds of rigs, even some heavy International conversions, like someone stated earlier, every vehicle had their strengths and weeknesses. Most haulers at the time preferred the Dodge because like mine, I had 75,000 miles when I sold it with ZERO problems. I did all the maintainence myself and ran all synthetics. With that said, I bought a new 08' F350 PSD, job 1, extended cab, short bed, 4x4, 20" wheel package, 3.73 gears, automatic, about 4 months ago and truely believe it is a great truck. This is my 4th Ford Diesel in the last 7 years.. The only thing that I might have a concern with is the limited slip, it seems a little loose to me and I have alerted the Stealership that I may be bringing it in shortly... my fuel mileage unloaded with 3,500 miles on it is "real calculations" right at 20 mpg flat terrain, cruise on 75 mph, 1900 rpm. In my opinion, and past experiences, the Diesel will not break in to about 15,000 miles, so we can expect better mileage as the engine breaks in...

If I'm correct, Tom Hoffman and I are simply saying that for this much money mpg should be much better. There is nothing worse than feeling like you've been dooped and all the guy that sold it to you can say is it's not his problem anymore or worse yet he says he can't fix it. In 17k mi on my job 1 I did not see my mileage increase one bit. Same with all7 of my 6.0's and 3 7.3's. I think mpg will increase at 100k. A nearly 50% decrease in mpg is unacceptable. period. Oh yea, rectum.
