Joey,

Let us know how the freightliner is when you get it. I am considering one for work. Good Luck!

Well, I'm fortunate to have it for $3.899 here today.

I "should" be in the FL this friday. Keep in mind, it's not a small FL, it's a full size 18 wheeler with a big sleeper...and an auto shift box tranny!

Yeah, well that's still less than us. $4.20/gal = $1.11/litre = AU$1.21/litre. We're paying more like $1.40 - $1.50/litre. That's over US$4.88/gal.

Great thread Joey. Good to see some real world experience. You'd better get a picture up of the trailer you've been using before the weeks out too.

Dave: Actually I live in Canada on the Canadian/U.S.A boarder and I cross over the boarder into the U.S.A. to buy my diesel fuel because in Canada it is $1.21 per litre or around $5.51 for a Canadian Gallon and right now the Canadian dollar is around par now. With a 100 litre tank I save about $10 now but I used to get a $30 savings last week , and for gasoline in the U.S.A. there is a $25 savings for 100 litres for me. I have 300 miles on my new F350 and every little $ bit helps, Since I haven't got over 11mpg. I wish it didn't show MPG on the information screen because soon the wife is going to figure out what MPG means LOL.

Yeah. With the US$ dropping, the differences are not nearly so great. In fact, I think the Aussie dollar will be worth more than US$ in six months.

I'm with you, get your fuel for as little as you can! Our fuel prices cycle weekly. They jump up on Thursdays and slowly drop over the next 7 days, sometimes 14c/l by Wednesday. Needless to say, I only get fuel on Tuesday/Wednesday! Unfortunately diesel doesn't fluctuate like that though. Weird and annoying.......

I think your lie-o-meter can display metric too.....

Well, I'm probably about as dumb as they come with computers...I wouldn't know the first clue about getting a picture on here.

I actually paid it off a couple days ago with income tax. Now that sob is mine.

Hello every one,

I thought I would check with you experts about a truck I am considering buying.
It’s a 2008 F450 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 8'box DRW, 6.4L auto, 4.30 gearing. I do tow my 37 foot fifth wheel about once a month but I am in the construction industry and this truck would be my daily driver so I would like to know what MPG I should expect. I am not heavy footed but I do cruse slightly over the speed limit most of the time. My other option is an F350 with the 3.73 and the same options as above.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

How heavy is your 5th wheel. If its GVW is 16k or less I would go with the F-350 no question. Between 16k and 18k flip a coin, you will be over the towing capacity but well within payload of the truck, DRW right. You are looking at a 2-3 mpg difference empty between the two trucks, 12-15 for the F350 and 10-12 for the F450 empty.

That is what I have. Depends on your 5ver loaded weight. As a daily driver, not the best. Now that it is broke in I average 13.46 but that is not on the highway. if you run 70mph you will average 10-11mpg. under 62mph about 14. We are planning on an 18k 5ver. if you are going to be under 15k I would go with a 350 3.73s with a manual for the best fuel milage. The Manuals apear to be getting about 2mpg better

Just passed 143K on my 2008. Replaced Fuel rail pressure sensor. Dealer said oil is black, (15K on full synthetic rotella) engine knocking bad and is shot. $22,000 for a new motor. My last ford. I was on a month or so back, talking about the problems I had at about 128K with the second exhaust leak. Just to be sure folks know i am not a troll or a dips*** her is my vin number so feel free to run the oasis on it. This truck has been my worst ford experience ... new owners should beware, and look up my previous posts. 1FTWW33RX8EA13616

Would sure love to see an update to this 7 years later

As the owner of a 2008 F450 and in the hotshot business myself, I'd sure like to hear how things ended up. I've had 8-10 Fords since 2002, but mainly the 7.3 or smaller gas engine cars and pickups and three months ago bought a 2008 F450 with 73k miles on a 6.4 PSD. Did my research, had it checked out first and was all smiles. Now 3 months later I hope I can get rid of it without losing my a$$. Mileage is terrible, and closer to HORRIBLE, I've got oil overheating issues we can't find yet, I've replace the fan clutch only to have it go out again a week later and now a knock in the engine that I hope I can get to quit without spending $5k. With the miles I'm driving (21,000 in three months) and the fuel I'm buying (7.5 MPG average) I'm positive there are better options but would love to hear what other guys have found. Any input anyone?
