Question Water in Fuel light, and HFCM

The light started showing two weeks ago, I had both filters changed, but the light continues to show. I have tried to drain the HFCM, but have been unable to remove the plug. The 6mm hex wrench now looks like a pretzel. Has anyone else had this much trouble trying to remove the plug? Any Ideas?

First off the o-ring on that plug is the sealer. Not foot-lbs. of torque, so when you do get it out. Remember.... not so tight. To your question if its that hard to get out then I would say take a $100 bill to the dealer and buy a new cover and get a different plug (not oem) that allowes you to take it out by hand, it will also have a little hook that will keep it from falling out while draining. Sorry can remember the part#. Maybe somebody else will know it. As for the cover if you buy a new one look at how many threads hold the plug into the cover (1Thread, very easy to strip!!)

I have drained mine several times and the plug always came out pretty easy. Is the hex stripped out because I have heard of that happening. If the hex is good try a good quality hex wrench that will not bend.

Coppola I did some more research and I have found that the plug can sometimes become frozen. Also if you live in cold weather and have not drained the HFCM it could have some gelling on the sensor causing the light to be on or else it just needs drained of water. run6.Orun is right the plug is held in by one thread and it has an oring for the seal. I believe the part number for the plug mentioned by run6.Orun is Ford Part # 6E7Z-9C082-A

I'm guessing the plug and sensor are corroded, but you might be able to clean out the sensor compartment and get by temporarily until you get a new cover. Read this.

I see 3000 got you the Ford part number already. The International part number is 2589259C91 if you get it at an International dealer.
