Help! Radio Removal

I have a 2001 Escape. I bought the removal tools, I insert them, pull them slightly apart, the radio only slide out 3/4 inch and stops. I have tried prying any way possible, got rough with it, nothing. The side clips are clearing the frame, something is holding it in and I can't find it. Does anyone have ideas?

I had this same problem about a month ago. I have the 6cd changer in mine. I put the DIN tools in the slots and it stuck. One of two things you can do. Take off the dash face, be careful not to pull on the heater controls too hard after you remove the knobs.(learned this the hard way, I broke and knob and a heater control cable) Under the radio there is a track that is a brace for the radio. I took a small screwdiver and pryed lightly on the sides of a white clip that rides along this track. this loosened it up some. Make sure that the DIN tool is all the way in the slots until you hear it snap. Do not try and use a bent coathanger for the DIN removal tools(they worked in older vehicles, but do not work in the escape). The DIN removal tool is available at Wal-Mart for 3 bucks. This should let the radio slide out on the track. If you have any other questions about this feel free to post back and I will try and help. I assume you are going to get rid of the factory unit(best decision I made) The factory speakers in mine sound great with the aftermarket head unit. Good luck with it.....
