My XLT did not come with fog lights but I would like to add them preferably "factory style". are the factory fogs a good set?? how do you turn them on in a factory equipped truck? I dont want to add any switches if possible. Thanks!
oh and I would like to be able to turn the fogs on by themselves AND keep them on with low and hi beams. thanks!
Well, the only way to do what you want without adding a switch is to put a control relay in and use the parking lights as the trigger. I have a 30A realy sitting here for just that purpose, but I'll be adding a switch since I don't want them on all the time. I saw a set that looked remarkably like the factory lights at Wal-Mart of all places. I may try them out since I'm in the same boat as you (XLT w/o factory fogs).
I got a factory kit for adding foglights from my dealer. You may even find this Ford kit on ebay.
They are the factory lamps, with all relays, wiring, etc. The only thing I did not like was that the switch was an underdash thing. I used my own switch (Pic in gallery) instead. I'd bet you could even retrofit-swap to a headlight switch that has foglight provisions.
The other issue was that my '05 had a different lamp than the year the kit was made for so I had to swap those out too. Not all bad as the difference is the bracket so I wound up with extra lamps should a rock take mine out.
The kit wires it so that they come on with the parking lights, but they do go off with the hi-beams. At least in PA, you won;t pass inspection with fogs that stay on with the hi-beams.
You can also buy aftermarket foglamps on ebay and you could rig up your own wiring. These are aftermarket factory replacements that would bolt right in.
Finally...once you are ready...also be sure to get some 9005s for the fogs...HUGE improvement.

what is used for a switch in a factory equipped truck?? I thought the headlamp knob maybe "pulled out" for fogs and I could replace mine with that one and just wire it in?
Jake...I used the brown wire on the factory headlight switch to trigger the relay that turns on the fogs. But...on trucks that came with fogs, the headlight switch does pull out for the fogs.

The factory fog lights on my '07 are controlled via the light switch. You pull the switch out to activate the fog lamps. There is no "extra switch" added.

AHHHH!!!!! now anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for that and the part number for the switch panel that pulls out? should fit right in place of mine....
I have a 2005 F250 XL that did not come with fog lights. I bought the Ford accessory kit to add the fog lights. Cost was about $225. It came with a wiring harness, fog lights and a replacement switch assembly. The existing head light switch is removed and the new one is installed. No to dificult to install. There are a couple of relays that come with the wiring harness. I don't remember the details, but you eather don't connect one of thr wires to the truck wiring or leave out one of the relays and the fog lights stay on when high beams are on. That is the way I connected mine. John

Not true, there is a kit from ford. Check my gallery. XLs don't come w/ fogs.
PIAA also has some factory looking square lights...I believe they are 410s, may be worth looking into.
The Ford kit for a 2005 F250XL is: 5C3Z-15200-AC. I does not come with instructions, but the dealer can print them out for you. You don't want to attempt installation without instructions. If they will not give you a copy, I will mail you one. John.
I added fog lights to my 02. I bought the factory headlight switch the pulls out from powerstrokeshop.com. If you call them they will make sure they send you the right part.
On my 02 there were 2 plugs on the back of the headlight switch. The lower plug controlled the fog lights. I just plugged the wiring harness into the back of the new headlight switch and probed the back of the plugs to see what was hot. Then pulled the fog light switch out to see which wire had power with the fog lights on. I cut and spliced into that wire. I added an inline fuse since that wire was run to a 30A fuse in the panel, but my foglights still work with the high beams on this way.
