Loud must be in

Hey guys I was just observing the other day that loud pipes must be the thing for highschool age kids. I was just past a high school in another town an it was after school, The kids were driving around an man talk about some loud exhaust. Wow. It must be a hot thing in that school. To have the loudest truck in the parking lot. There was a mix off old an new trucks there. It seemed like everybody had big chrome tips an loud pipes. Maybe some had straight pipes too not for sure. On some off the older trucks I am sure didnt have an catalytic converters either the way they sounded either. Those kid werent shy about showing off there exhaust either. Always revin an backin off. Man it makes me yearn for my high school days.

Loud is great, but not too loud unless it is truely a high performance engine. I like loud enough that I can hear it over the radio, but more important is a good quality of sound, nice throaty big block sound.

When I was 16 I worked the summer mainly to put headers and true duals on my 74' F-100. Loud is fun and is usually just a muffler and cat removal away.

Getting Older?

I like the noise too, ofa good running engine, and nice exhaust. In my 79 I'm running a slightly modified 400m, headers, 3" exhaust, 24" GlassPacks, going up into 5" stacks in the bed that are just cab high.
Was a blast for a while, now I'm actually thinking about toning it down abit. But nothing crazy...

Haha I am 17 and am a Junior here in PA. I have a 1989 F-350 crew cab dually 4x4 diesel with straigh pipes going into 5" bullhorn stacks. Damn I love this truck. Unfortionaly, a lot of people here like those "fart can" mufflers to get their cars loud but if you've got a truck here...Its loud and man it sounds good.

Thats a sweet truck, real clean looking.

I have straight pipes into my stacks, it's pretty loud, but my 3 month old daughter loves it. She falls right to sleep when I put her in the truck. She's not so fond of my super quiet V6 mustang though.

Killer truck there Sycostang67. Your daughter would probably like the Mustang better with a loud V8. Not sure the V6 can be made to sound that great even if loud.

I can't understand the mentality of anyone who puts a fart can muffler on their wrong wheel drive POS rice burner type car. One should want to drive those things quietly in shame and not attract attention. I don't care how fast they may be, they are wrong for anything but basic transportation and then a poor excuse for a good rear wheel drive vehicle.

Loud doesn't prove you have power, or are fast.

When I pull up to a loud truck it only increases my confidence I can put him behind me really fast. Very loud is usually a good indicator that the only powerful thing a truck has is exhaust volume. A truly powerful engine doesn't need to be loud for daily driving.

I've seen far too many "not loud" powerful cars and trucks to prove that. Now, granted there are some combinations that are both powerful and loud, but the volume of the noise isn't the give-away on that. I'll take the sound an engine makes with a good cam grind or timing gears over pure volume any day.

I also find the volume to be a safety feature. Since everyone is far too busy mutlitasking instead of driving, the sound can usually get someone's attention before they pull out in front of me and get a 300 pound bumper in the butt.

Id agree with the saftey part as i dont hit near as many deer/animals as others around here and im convinced it has something to do with the fact that my truck rattles windows when i go by. Not to mention im a superior driver

Any suggestions for V10 ehaust system?

Im new to this Forum so I dont know how to post my own question, but I just got a 2001 F250 crew cab v10 with an 8 ft bed. What sucks though is I have to get a new trans and radiator only 2 weeks into having it, Go figure. I was looking for an exhaust system that sound loud and good. For a cheaper price since a lot of my savings just went into fixing the darn thing. Any suggestions?
