Is it possible with a complete donor vehicle, without too much hassle?
I know theres always going to be some hassle, and Im not interested in opinions about what the cost would be compared to swapping in a 351, or souping up a 302.
Im looking at the unique factor of it. Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

It has been done a few times. Most guys get the 4.6 from a crown vitoria or cougar. The swap is just like any other swap. Some welding moving crossmembers and some wiring.
Well I was thinking about that. I migh tjsut be able to get a 4.6 liter for a little cheaper. All in all the 4.6 liter would probably get a little better fuel mileage, and Im not really planning on making a huge powerhorse out of it, more of a cool reliable daily driver.

I already have my 4.6L sitting in a 93 Lincoln Mark VIII. With mods, it's 435 HP and gets 28 MPG highway, 20 City... And no one can keep up with it. Engine only has 76K. I really enjoy driving the car but it's not a truck...I love my truck and van.
Because of the wiring, I feel it won't be worth the effort to put the 93 plant in my 98 F150 with blown 4.2L, but I hope it will go in my 93 E-150 van that is running fine but has 4.9L v6 w/125K miles. I would like to tow my boat with the van, but the current power won't allow.
There's a few different 4.6 V8's. There's the ones in the Crown Vics, which were low performance 4.6's making around 170 horsepower. Then there were the 4.6 in the Cougars/Thunderbirds/Mustang GT's which were all identical (until 1999), pushing a rated 205 horsepower in the T-birds and rated 220-225 in the Mustangs. And those are all SOHC 4.6 V8's. Then, there's the Mark VIII 4.6 DOHC V8 pushing something like a rated 265 - 285 horsepower stock.
I definitely wouldn't get one out of the Crown Vics. Start with the H.O. 4.6's in the T-birds/Cougars/Mustang GT's at least, or go on up to the Mark VIII, or even the Cobra DOHC 4.6.
I had a 1994 T-bird with the 4.6 H.O., and I wished I could have put it in my truck, also for the unique factor. A damn reliable engine with some decent midrange and topend power. Had no down low grunt.

HUGE Difference. My neighbor thought he would get a Crown Vic to keep up with my MARK VIII... HHHHHAAAAAA ROFLMAO!!! NO WAY. 135HP verses 280 to 290 stock... (LSC is 290 stock all others 280HP on Lincoln Mark VIII). Simple mods, easy to do. THIS Intake, takes it!! Computers (Hwy Patrol), pulleys, filters, and a few part swaps and you have a ROCKET!
0-60 is quite quick, very very quick, the Jump is the weakest. My f150 weighs less than the lincoln. BUt the faster you go, the faster it gets... 70 to 120 in a blink. and your gone. I set the cruise on 80mph and average 28 mpg. AT 65 MPH it is turning 1150 to 1300 RpMS...
This is why I want it in my van... I would put it in my F150 but they are different generations... 93 vs 98 truck. I am looking for a good 98 lincoln Mark VII LSC wrecked then it won't be an issue.

205 in the t-bird/cougar, 215 in the Mustang, in 1996/97

I would hardly call any 4.6 with non-PI heads "high output".
I had a '96 t-bird, had no low-end grunt. Got a '97 Cougar, LOADS of low-end grunt. No actual difference in the engines that I could ever find, it's all in the PCM apparently.
The 4.6 in the '96/97 t-bird/cougar/Mustang was hardly "High Output". In '98 with PI heads, the Mustang want up to 260HP(?)
I'd go for a 4.6 with PI heads. Not sure if the Crown Vic ever got them but I think they did around '99?

I think its a bad idea unless you go with a truck 4.6. The car motors are designed for highway driving, and have no low end, something you will need with a truck. The truck cams are profiled for lower end torque.
check out http://www.car-part.com and you can find pretty much any 4.6 you could be looking for.
Are you sure the truck motors have different cams? Never heard that mentioned...

I have a 93 Lincoln Mark 8 4.6 liter DOHC mounted in my 79 F100, I am currently reassembling the firewall with all the wiring, brake booster, steering and ac/heat plenum from the Lincoln. There are some pictures in my gallery from last fall. I will be adding some more by the end of next month hopefully with the firewall complete. I also have the rear IRS from the Lincoln sitting under the truck workng out the engineering to make it a good fit.
I will add some engine mods later and as for low end.... I am not worried.
Man you are going all out 427sohc. You will have to be sure and keep us posted with any problems or whatnot you run into. I think it seems like a really cool idea and I would like to do it to my shortbox.
