Help connecting the vaccum on distributor

I was hoping someone can help me figure this out. I need to find a place to connect the vaccum line for the spark advance on the distributor. Most all of the stock vaccum if either cut or plugged. Is there some kind of pipe coming off the manifold that I can connect my hose to? If you can provide pictures that would help alot. I will try to take a pic of two places I saw if I can.

If you need to, splice into the line with a tee vacum line fitting and go to the distributor.

Dennis, I know exactly which port you are talking about. There is a 4" hose coming out of it with a screw in it. So just run my line to it?

It is the Motorcraft 2bbl carb on a 400 78 F250

I ran a new 3/8 hose to the back driver side of the carb for the PCV coming off the passenger side valve cover and put a breather oil cap on the driver side valve cover. I see from a diagram there was alot of stuff that was hooked up before but now everything seems to have been rerouted or cut or has screws in the lines to plug it so I have to either put it back or totally eleminate it until I can replace the manifold and carb later.
Let me try to get you some pics

On my 77, the PCV system is plumbed as follows:

In the passenger side valve cover (where your PCV valve is) there is an elbow with 3/8" hose running to the air cleaner where there is an emissions filter just inside the air cleaner. There is a steel line running from the point where you have the PCV hose attached below the carburetor. This runs to near the oil filler/breather at which point another piece of 3/8" hose is attached and runs to the PCV valve which mounts in the oil breather.

Don't know how your setup works, but the routing I've outlined above is as it came from the factory. Of course, for thie routing, you would need the stock air cleaner. And your application may have been different from the factory.

One major suggestion.

Reroute that fuel line UNDER the dist cap and those sparkplug wires.
Right now that's a fire waiting to happen.

Presently the VA hose is running directly to the vacuum amplifier.

Major problem for some places

Originally the VA would get vacuum from a VCV switch ,,which routed heated vacuum and the engine warmed up.

Without all the emissions it needs PORTED vacuum..instead of constant vacuum which the way it is.... right now.

If you want I can post illustrations of what it originally looked like ?

Sure post what you have. Anything can help. I'll reroute those wires. Don't need another fire lol.

Re-route the fuel line ,,,not the wires.

I should have all of the main pieces except for the breather. I guess time to go to the store and buy a bunch of tubing and see if I can put it back together.

I had the truck running this morning but it will not idle. It was smoking on the passenger side and it was pretty loud so I am hoping it was just the exhaust manifold leaking and not a cracked head or something. I can't see a crack in it (the manifold) so I wonder if it is just a bad gasket.

Two quick questions for yall:
1. What does the vac advance do?
2. Why does it need ported vacuum?

Ported vacuum:
to supply vacuum to the VA when the engine requires it from being revved up.

Vacuum advance mechanism;

receiving ported engine vacuum at OFF IDLE...actuates pulling on a lever attached to the plate in the distributor which alters advances the timing of the spark reaching the spark plugs ......as the engine is now running faster and the mechanism needs to adjust to meet the need.

Where do I get ported vacume from on a non emision engine?
Engine is originaly an 83 model 460, but it has a 74 model air cleaner, and an aftermarket Holley street avenger.
There is a "vacume tree" at the back of the intake which is where I have my cruise, A/C, and V/A. Will this work, or should it be run to the carberator?
