97 460, should I or not???

Hey All,

Got another question here.
In trying to get my 460 goin in my 79 f250 4x4, we found a dead cylinder, no compression. It was the second one we checked.
Figured that there was no sense in goin on checkin.
I really ain't got the money for the rebuild, so it's off lookin for another engine.
I found one outta a early 70's lincoln, about 80k miles, ran when pulled, for $250 from a guy I know. Says it was an ok engine, nothing special, bought the car and drove it to the shop and pulled the engine.

Next I found a 97 fuel injected 460 outta a motorhome, guy said that the rear of the home had caught fire. Engine has sat for about a year. He says it has about 55k on it.I can get that one for between $300 and $350, the guy wants to talk turkey, ya know?

Anyway, I'm no mechanic, I have a guy to do the work for me but he don't wanna make any decisions for me. He says that we will pull the fuel injection off the 97 and put a manifold and carb on it. And the early 70's engine has sat for about a year and a half.

Please help me decide.

Thanx alot y'all

The early 70's motor is probably a better choice. More parts available and all of the internals are balanced the same as what you have, My 77 has over 180,000 on it and still pulling strong.

You may not be able to put a carb on that fuel injected engine. I think the intake manifold bolt pattern is different. You could if you changed the heads, but thats a long way to go for a carb.

Nathan's right, the intake manifolds/heads are different and there's no aftermaket manifold that allows a carburetor manifold to be used on FI heads.
