Anybody know the law?
Does anyone know the law in Iowa about lights?
i was thinking about doing this to my grill. (myself, i'm not paying $400 for a stupid grill)
anyway.. isn't there a law that you have to cover lights, you can only have a certain number of lights showing? how many is it 4 or 6? Ihave my headlights and the factory foglights in the bumper... do i need to take out the foglights if I put lights in my grill?
Also would the lights in my grill be considered offroad lights... or could i use them as my fog lights (provided i dont buy some monster bright ones)
any help would be appreciated, i don't like to find out these laws the hard way....(like how i found out how far off my speedometer was last week)

Stryder has it, but I would think that unless they are on, it shouldn't matter. If you plan on driving a lot with them on, then I can see it might be a problem. Hook them up with the high beams, and kick them off when you meet someone...Fog lights can blind the heck out of oncoming drivers, as long as they are adjustable down, probably won't be a problem, but still well worth asking about.

From a personal stand point, I don't think it's going to make any difference if you have one or a hundred in this state, as long as you aren't being obnoxous with them. It's when you start attracting attention (of the boys in blue) that you'll have a problem.
If you're concerned about it at all, how about mounting them behind the grill so they shine through. That way nobody will see them and they will still be just as effective. The amount of light loss should be minimal.

In Iowa the law is about how many can be on at one time, and doesn't matter how many are showing just as long as not actually turned on while on the road.
What you might want to watch for though is if you go into other states, take IL for example they not only can't be turned on, but must not even be able to be turned on from within the cab while driving on a public road. I.E. you have to need to get under the hood and hook them up in order to run them. MO I believe they have to be covered up etc. So it's not just a consideration of what Iowa law states but also what any state you travel in also requires.

I got pulled over for having 8 forward lights on at one time. I had my fog lights(2), parking lights(2) low beams(2) and high beams(2) on at the same time. The MAX you can have at one time is 6 lit up counting marker/parking/turn lights, as the State Trooper informed me.
With my new HIDs on my Contour SVT...I only have my HIDs, parking, and fogs on at all times, no high beams needed.
