WRONG. Why would I be willing to pay more money for a vehicle I find less desirable?
Here I have to disagree. I have no use for a Superduty truck. I will be the first to admit my truck is a Minivan with a box. I use it to pull the 4 wheelers and haul garbage and that is about the only work that truck sees now.
I am replacing mine in September or October (just imported it into canada so I have to keep it a full year) with a Reg Cab, Short box 2wd and the 5.4L (want a toy this time). If I can't get it with a manual, which isn't likely to happen, I will get it with an Auto because it doesn't make sence for me to spend the extra money on a Superduty.

I bought my '06 F150 with an auto, but I was looking for a manual and found they weren't available except in a stripped down 4.2L. If the trim level were nicer on the 4.2L, I would have bought it to get the manual. So as it turns out, I guess you can sell an auto to someone that wants a manual . . .

What statment of mine are you disagreeing with? I never said you should buy a Super Duty.
What I said is that automatic transmissions cost more then manual transmissions. Also for a certain number of consumers an automatic transmission is less desirable (regardless of the cost). I don't know about you, but if I am asked to pay more money then I expect to get a better product not a worse one. In this case the consumer is asked to pay extra money for a product that they don't want.
Of corse in this case the consumer in question is me. I am well aware that the majority of Americans do find automatic transmissions desirable. That is fine. But it doesn't invalidate the people who would rather drive a manual transmission vehicle.
If Ford sold a V8 manual transmission 4x4 F150 I would be driving that today instead of my Super Duty. But that truck does not exist.

I know, i never said that you did and didn't mean it to come accross that way.

Here is the point I was trying to make. You said you desire a V8 manual transmission 4x4 F150. Instead you drive a Superduty. That means you payed more and settled for something that you desired less. Not saying is isn't a good truck, but you wanted an F150.
I am saying that instead of paying more for the Superduty to get the manual, I would rather settle for the F150 with the Auto and pay only $1000 more.
As for the cost difference, I completely agree with you. If they are only going to offer an Auto with the V8, then they should not charge you for both the V8 and the Auto.
The 5.4L prices at $1685 online when building the truck, then they hit you for another $1055 off the bat for the Auto.

I was just on the Dodge website. They have no problems with putting a manual on a V-8. They even offer a manual behind a 5.7 V-8 Hemi on the 2500,. They offer a manual on all the trim levels except the top one. I have to wonder if Ford's refusing to offer a manual is just laziness....

I forgot to specify my complete list of requirments: V8, 4x4, manual tranny, and not a dodge or nissan
Yup that means Toyota and GMC/chevy were in the running with Ford. But dodge or nissan?
I'm sure Ford and Chevy don't offer manual transmissions because some accountant "proved" that the loss of sales for that option will be offset by the savings in research and development costs. Also they beleave 95% of the people asking for a manual transmission will upgrade to the automatic if that is the only option. The other 5% of their cunstomers (me) are not important.

I had a 99 4.6 with the 5 speed, and loved it. Only reason I traded it was because wife was pregnant, and I needed a back seat. If I could get another regular cab 4x4 with a v8/manual combo, I would. Maybe I could take the drivetrain from a older superduty......hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Autobox trucks consistently have higher tow ratings in the F-150 chassis. And that's where I live. A SD is beyond anything that I will need now, or insofar as I can see in the future.
