How much would YOU pay?!?!?!

There is a little difference between truck and car 460's. I know the truck 460 tends to have a rear sump oil pan and the car has a front sump. I prefer a rear sump. From what I gather, atleast some of the truck engines had football rods instead of broached. See this page http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Connecting-rod-index.html

There could be more differences that I don't know about or forgot, but mostly they are the same I guess. I just know I would pay much more for a truck 460 than I would a Lincoln 460, one of those facts I filed away in my head and forgot why exactly.

If I find anymore differences, I'll surely post them back here.

Since your not going to be racing or whatever, any rods will do and its up to you about the oil pan. Try somewhere besides NAPA for the cover gaskets or just use RTV like you said.

Have a look at this article as well:

http://www.projectbronco.com/Technical_Articles/installing_460.htm

The price of a rear sump pan from L&L is $200, ouch, I could get another engine for that.

The exhaust manifolds are different between trucks and cars too, but I guess you have those already. If you were going from a 300 to 460, that fact may have come into play.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Dec-02 AT 04:33 AM (EST)]Thanks for the links. I have a 460 with the front oil sump in the truck now so the swap should go smoothly. I'm gonna be using headers so I don't need the exhaust manifolds anyway. I have the heads already. I just need to find a stock non EGR intake manifold or go with an after market manifold to go with the block.

Sounds like you got it licked

Just wondering, did your 460 come from the factory in your truck?

You can also look at the casting #'s, if it has a 'V' as the 3rd letter, it was designated for a Lincoln Continental 1961-81. Trucks could have a E, H, K, T, X, OR 7.

So, D0VE-C would be a 1970 design, with a licoln designation, from engine engineering dept., and atleast the 3rd revision but probably more. D0VE-A2A would be atleast the 2nd revision.
