moaning in the cold

Ok, 99 4X4, already did the AVM hubs, work great. This morning it was about -25c outside (don't no the F conversion, but real cold) and while driving to work I was getting a real moaning sound coming from the front. This sound went up and down with the speed of the truck and not with the engine so I am wondering if that sounds like a wheel bearing? The sound did go away after about 15miles and the rest of my trip (about another 10miles) did not make noise again. The truck was in 2wheel drive with the hubs disinegaged. If it does sound like a wheel bearing can I expect it to ge worst and how tricky are they to do?
Thanks guys

It is -24 dgr C in Lugansk and there are many unusual sounds in my aero and ranger too. ABS pump works very loudly every time I aplly brake (not the valves).

Does this sound desappeare when truck warms up? May be it is CV ore U-joints sound....

yeh, the sound did dissappear after quite awhile, like I said the front axle should not of been turning as the hubs were free, but I guess it could be a U joint, just sounds like its coming from the front.
