Vibration / hesitation / surging at low rpms

Can anyone help? I have a 2000 V10 X, and all of sudden I am getting a good vibration at low rpms (1000-2000 is the worst), and any gear, during Acceleration. Under hard acceleration, it appears to go away, and it gets better above 3000 rpm, but I can still feel it. It also will do it in 4x2 or 4x4. It happened while the truck was sitting for a week (on vacation). If I coast (no gas), there is no vibration. It feels like there is a hesitation going on as well, causing the vibration. I do know it is NOT the tires. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would first suspect a (or multiple) bad COP (Coil on Plug).

Definately check the COP. I've had COP's go bad before and your description of the problem is pretty much what I experianced. Just recently I replaced all 8 (I have a V8 Excursion) of the COP's, it was about $400 total for all 8.

So, it ended up being some coils (2 of them) - took it somewhere to have them replaced. What makes these go bad? Are they easy to change - any how-tos? As only 2 have been replaced, I still have 8 more opportunities. Thanks.

Heat & age are usually the culprits. Depending on the miles it may not be a bad idea to replace all of them. Make sure new boots and some dialectic grease is used.

Couldn't it be the gas also?

91k on the odometer. As it cost enough for 2, I don't want to do the others unless I can do it myself - do you know of any DIY writeups?

Check the V10 forum or even the 5.4L V8 forum since they are the same.

It is a DIY thing and very easy to do.

When I was moving from FL to TN after filling up at a chevron station a few miles down the road the more I press the pedal the slower it will go and it wouldn't even go above 40 on I75, I call the dealer on the road and they said it sounded like the tranny, I then called my friend and he said that that happened to him once and he added some additives to the gas and it was ok, I did that and it started driving better. The next morning and for a few weeks after that is was bucking, black smoke, and hesistation then I read here about the COP issues, so I was gonna replace them then all the weirdness stopped. Since it stopped it didn't happen again. All because of a tank full of bad gas.
