Thanks for all the input guys.

I would hope a 2WD that is driven conservatively would be able to get 18 HWY.

Bridge, I'm very interested to see if/when you get that fan kit. I'd love to see the data after a few tanks using the E-fans. A good way to really prove the effect, on a local level for you and I.

Ok since 4.6L is brought up. We just completed a 1400 mile trip to Western New York State in our 04 F150 Screw XLT 2wd 4.6L...loaded with 2 adults and 2 kids plus luggage, cruising at 74 ish mph...best 2 tanks were 19.6 mpg and 20.3 mpg....running on 87 octane with an SCT custom tune..

ps truck has over 100k miles on it...ie its not new

That's much better than I thought you'd get with the 4.6.

I have an 04 2wd screw with 3.55 gears, I get about 19 highway going back and forth to work all week, I have a 35 mile one way trip, about 33-34 of those miles are on the highway. When I am pulling my popup I get about 13-14mpg highway. I have an '06 starcraft 2409. 3000 lbs loaded, 18' long closed 3 people and 2 dogs.

I have an '06 F150 Lariat 4x4 SCAB with 5.4/3.73 and 27,000 miles. While the weather was still warm, I was getting 21hwy/18.2city (19.6 avg.). Now that it's gotten cold here in Ohio I'm averaging 17.2mpg.

I thought the originator of this thread ask for realistic numbers. Apparently there is something wrong with my truck or my calculator. The best I can do is 14 around town and 18 on highway. This is driving very conservatively. I would kill for some of the numbers I am seeing in this thread. I know the long box adds some weight and the 3.55 hurts some with in town stop and go but +20 mpg I will never see regardless of mods.

My Truck:
2 wheel drive Lariat
6.5' box
3.55 Gears
Dual Exhaust

I have had 3 ford trucks in the past 10 years, I kept track of all of the mileage on all 3 of them, every gallon, every mile, loaded, unloaded, winter, summer, etc. went into an Excel spreadsheet. I didn't throw out pulling heavy trailers or tail winds running light on the Interstate...these numbers are honest long term averages.

I drive in Central IL where it's flat in a mix of about 60/40 highway/city driving.

1997 F-150 Super Cab, 4x2, 4.6L, 3.55LS, 6' open box.
Total miles when traded 126,000
Mileage recorded over 70,588 miles
High = 18.38
Low = 11.49 (5000# trailer in tow, OD off)
Average over total miles = 15.91 MPG

2004 F-150 SuperCrew, 4x2, 5.4L, Edge on level 2 and 89 octane (10% ethanol), 3.55LS, 5.5' box with Access cover.

Total miles when some idiot T-boned me 34,456
Mileage recorded over 19,363 miles
High = 18.52
Low = 12.32 (5000# trailer in tow, OD off)
Average over total miles = 16.36 MPG

2006 F-150 SuperCrew, 4x2, 5.4L (E85 version), Edge on level 2 and 89 octane (10% ethanol), 3.55LS, 5.5' box with Access cover.

Total miles to date: 25,585
Mileage recorded over 25,585 miles
High = 18.45
Low = 8.87 (7500# travel trailer in tow, OD off)
Average over total miles = 15.56 MPG

I just got a Harley with the Saleen motor and have been seeing 14.0 around town. That is on the computer average. Is the computer fairly accurate? I only have 200 miles on the truck.

Yes, very accurate. As long as you reset it every time you fill up.
