Question 351 m to 460 engine swap.....

Hello all I have a 1980 f 350 2wd which had a 351 m and i have decided to put a 460 engine in it... the swap is almost complete... has any one had trouble being able to turn the engine after the engine is mated to the transmission? if so what did you do to correct it? the donor truck is a 86 f 250 4wd any help would be appreciated!!! thanks

I had the same thing on my 1st swap, it was simply an alignment issue between the output shaft and the input on the tranny. Had to remove the bell housing bolts & re-align the engine & transmission, making sure everything turned freely.

I'm sorry, thought we were talking about an automatic - I have not done a manual so I don't know if the bell housings for the m and the 460 are the same. If they are different then it could be the pressure plate.

ive had the clutch fingers hit on my bellhousing and i needed to get a diaphram style clutch...thats may not be your problem but i could see on the bellhousing where it was hitting. maybe look in there.

havi is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Just a shot in the dark, but when the PO of my '83 F250 4x4 put a 2wd 302, the oil pan pushed into the crank via the crossmember. Just a thought to look, but I'm sure you have clearance.

On my swap the pressure plate was contacting the bell housing in a few spots.I just ground the areas with an angle grinder and all is well

my swap was a 86 460 3/4 4wd to a 1980 2wd 1ton the motor mounts are different in my experience i had to use the bell housing from the 460 it was a fairly easy swap... i ran to a oil filter clearance problem and bought a smaller oil filter....i am having a little trouble with the mechanical to hydraulic clutch linkages
