From what I have read and herd, you do not want to go below 180.
You should not have to change anything other then the thermostat.

i asked the same question when i installed the Hypertech Power Programmer III....90% of those out there said, "leave the stock 'stat in....if you do decide to change it, do NOT go below 180"
i left the stock 'stat....she has 99k on the clock, why put her in an early grave!

The cooler it runs, the more wear you get. The moving parts are designed to be ran around 195 degrees, plus a warmer engine is more efficient and it keeps any moisture burned out of the engine caused by condensation.

leave the stock one in there. You will start to run into upper cylinder wear issues.

LastSplash is starting off with a positive reputation.
If you change the thermostat it is a good idea to use one that is the same temp as stock. The ECM will not go into closed loop until the engine/coolant temp gets to a certain temp, if you put a lower temp thermostat in the engine temp may not get warm enough to allow the ECM to go to closed loop which will make your gas mileage go down to about 10mpg.

Use the stock temp stat if you go to low it will set an engine code and will not go into closed loop.
