78 Bronco vs 2001 Audi Quattro

Well this past Saturday I was backing out of a parking space with my 1978 Bronco and a woman driving a 2001 Audi Quattro attempted to "squeeze" past.

Ford Bronco 1
Audi Quattro 0

Barely a scratch on the Bronco just below the taillight and no bumper damage. The Audi did not fair as well, crushed in drivers side front fender. No one was injured but the woman did comment about regretting selling her old truck which would have survived better.

My insurance agent inspected my vehicle and hers and was amazed at her damage. This whole incident happened at idle speed.

Moral to this story... SUV's (78 full size Bronco's) fair better in fender benders.

Hehe, reminds me of a little fender bender I had in Boston. I was on an onramp, and a lady in a Corolla in front of me started to go forward in a big break in traffic. I looked back behind me to see if anyone else was coming, and when I saw no one, I pulled out. Of course, she was still sitting there with her finger up her nose, and I nailed her. I got out and looked over my truck (1999 F-150xlt) and the only thing that happened to her was the plastic liscence plate bracket was cracked. As for the Corolla? Her entire rear bumper was mangled, the trunk was pushed in about 8 inches, the hood to the bumper was bent up, and there was a small crack in the rear windshield. No one was hurt, I'm paying for it now with the insurance hike, but I got a chuckle out of how well my baby performed.

Follow up: She didn't do too well this winter when she slid on black ice and wrapped around a tree....very upsetting. It's ok though. I bout an old 1986 F20 4x4. Got a 1996 351W, Holley 750 carb, Edelbrock 351W Performer Intake Manifold, Extreme 4x4 cam, Pacesetter headers, and dynomax turbos. The truck whips!

Hah, it wasn't a Ford, but heck it was a truck. Had a 74 Datsun PU with a step bumper. Was doing the teenage cruise thing and was stopped at an intersection. A dude in a late 60's Oldsmobile full size must have been checking out the chicks and rear ended me at I guess 10mph? Smashed the front of his tank and even had a small fire going under the engine(!? I don't know how). All that was busted on my truck was the step bumper, the rest of the truck served me well for many years until I sold it in 1991 with almost 200K on the clock.

Of course if you leaned against the fender looking cool, as I was ya know, it would crush the fender and set you on your butt. No harm done, just reach under the fender and push out the sheetmetal with your fingers. Cheapest body work I ever did.

Now have me a 94 F250 beeg one and a huge mortgage and wife and kids to boot and skittels and candy wrappers under the seats. Ah for the good old days.

I got a good one. I was drinving down the road and I saw an accident scene. It was something the size of a tauris but it wasnt a taurus and it drove under the back of a new f150. The front end/hood was just mangled. It didnt look salvagable. But the f150, I didnt even think it was the vehicle the taurus looking thing hit. I stopped to inspect. The f150 had some pretty good scratches but other than that there was no real dammage. The person in the car was probably one of those that thinks trucks are worthless, look whose vehicle is worthless now.

All of these reminds me of a fender bender I saw last year. It was at a yield sign, and a Ford Taurus Wagon (who assumed that the pontiac transport van in front of him was going to go), wasn't watching, and rearended the van. The bumper cover on the van was destroyed. Car had scratches on the bumper, airbags went off (broke passengers wrist I believe) BUT the windshield was completly shattered top to bottom! Couldn't have been more than a square inch of area to look out on that thing! All of us that saw this couldn't believe what we were looking at, as fenders, hood etc, seemed straight and undamaged. Didn't see under the hood though.
