66 Econoline Fuel Tank

I'm in the process of restoring my first Econoline(66') and am having trouble locating a fuel tank.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

The fuel tank for a 61-67 Econoline is not reproduced, so you will have to recondition your tank or buy a used one. They show up on ebay from time to time.

Fuel tank

Didn't I read here that a car tank will work if you relocate the filler neck?

No. The 60-65 Falcon tank filler pipe in on the top at the back. The Econoline is on the driver side bottom. The Falcon tank drops in from above and has a lip to keep it from falling through the hole in the trunk. The Econoline tank mounts from the bottom.

I guess you could rig something up, but I don't think that it will be pretty.

The Ranchero/wagon tank might work, but they are not reproduced either and are as hard to find used as the Econoline tank.

Fuel Tank

Im in the process of installing a fuel tank in my 63 econoline van.
I purchased a 1975-1977 FORD E-100 E-150 E-250 E-350 ECONOLINE FUEL GAS TANK F15A from Impala Bob's inc. It has the same dimensions as my original, but with a deeper tank.

My only concern is the fill tube, it sets forward of the original by about 4 inches.

I'll add an update after tomorrow. I'm taking it to Dig's Rod Shop.

The rod shop site has pictures of what they have done to the van.

Econoline Tank

You'll likely have to re-do the fuel intake ... I have a Mustang tank in my 66 that was redone by Fred Carello in R.I. ... just had to buy longer straps and it doesn't hang down on the rear end. The vent and filler tubes were re-used from the original tank and were relocated ... lots more gallons and still good after 10 years ... only minor issue that I never tried to figure out is that the new sending unit pegged the original fuel gauge beyond full but once the old fuel gauge gas quantity was reached, it behaved normally. Just got used to watching it go down and was not interested when it was full.
