Won't shift from 'Park'
Hi & thanks for reading my thread. I have a '04 psd 6.0 dually cc with 52,000 miles. It's a great truck, except that often when I park on the slightest incline the darned thing won't shift from 'Park'. It stays locked. To prevent it from locking I have to put it in neutral, set the parking brake then place into park & I don't have the problem. Any advice?

I've seen it happen on other brand vehicles as well. As said there's a lot of weight being forced on the park lock thing. To avoid it and any damage that may result from it apply the parking brake just after you've come to a stop and still have your foot pressed down on the brake pedal. Then shift into park and you'll have no problems getting it back into drive. As a bonus the constant use of the parking brake will keep it from seizing up and you're truck rolling off down the hill should the park pin thing in the tranny snap.

My truck does this too- but I don't even have to be on an incline. My resistance is not so much from the gears but it seems that the actual shift lever won't "un-lock"... If I depress the brake firmly, it will allow me to move the shift lever out of park, but I have to press harder on the brake pedal than I normally would.
Have any other 6.0er's experienced THIS type of resistance, and is it fixable? I guy at the performance shop that I visit said to take it in for warranty work, but it is really not a big issue to me. Anyone out there know how I could fix/ adjust this myself?

its the brake switch on the pedal.
check and see if the wireing is loose and if not then the brake switch should be replaced. when you hit the pedal do you hear a clicking noise from down there? if not then its the brake switch. and it will get worse that switch also controls the cruise control to shut off when you press the brake.
i have had this happen to me and no fun when comeing up on traffic.
