hello, my Ford OEM roof DVD player is not working properly. first, the remote no longer is able to operate the player. yes, I've installed new batteries. possibley the IR receiver on the player isn't working?? second, when a DVD is loaded it will run thru the previews but "freezes" at the menu. you can hit Play all day and nothing happens. yesterday the player would not eject the DVD no matter how many times I shut it down and powered it back on. luckily, today it actually ejected the DVD. I would appreciate any assitance. thanks and Happy Holidays!!

 

If it were mine I'd remove it and attempt to clean the lens. Cheap DVD players will sometimes get confused and freeze up. Most will simply just eject the disc but I've had home DVD players that would just implode and do nothing. If that doesn't work probably an end of life issue. As far as the remote, those thing usually get banged up pretty good, especially if you've got kids. I know my 3 year old has thrown the remote in my wife's expy to the windshield on occasion. Try using one of your A/V remotes from your house. One of the buttons is bound to have the same code as the DVD player in your expy, especially if you have one of those receiver remotes with 100 buttons on it.

 

thanks for your suggestion. I don't think it's the lense as it plays previews when inserted but stops at the main menu. have a happy new year.

 

update: took it apart but couldn't find anything wrong. don't have an O-scope or schematics so deferred to Ford. provided them the part number and they contacted Audiovox for a replacment which costs $274 vice ordering a new one from Ford for $953.

 

$274 is not bad. Is that just the 'brains' or the entire unit with trim and all?

 

You might check e-bay also, I've seen them there once and a while

I have a 2003 Expy EB with the OEM DVD player and it wont play anything but stamped DVDs, I am thinking about replacing the brains or possibly just the laser?? Not sure what part is that is not compatible for DVD-Rs...anyhoot, does anyone know for sure whether the 04, 05 or 06 DVD players fit the 2003 ?? I am thinking I can just replace the black unit for a more recent one (preferably the 06) and solve this problem, paying about 200-300 aint bad becuase the cost of replacement DVDs will be more down the line (once they melt or scuff and wont play with all the vibration in the car)

Any information would help...I do not have the part number for my DVD player.

Hello all,
I have a 2003 Expedition with the stock dvd player. When I put a dvd in it plays the sound but does not display image.
Is there something I can do to fix these or is it dead?

 

Is it a store bought DVD or one that you burned yourself?
Have you tried other DVDs?
