Acoustic Guitar

I just got an acoustic guitar for Christmas (first guitar ever), and I was wondering if any of you guys played? I'm really looking to learn how, without going through lessons with some *****. Those who play, how'd you learn and do you know any good sites or anything to learn from? Thanks.

i have played guitar for 9 years. the best lessons you can get is to jam out with other people and see what they do and learn tidbits from them. what kinda music do you plan on playing? one of the things i did was just learned songs by my favorite bands and learn different chords and techniques through songs you know and love.

Mostly country, with a little rock mixed in too. What do you play?

You'd probably be right... You'd probably be right...

Did the repeating of myself and the ... pauses make me seem dramatic? Thanks for giving me some tips, man.

I tried once....but I really don't have any musical talent at all. The best advice I can give you is to run a google search. You'd be surprised how many free guitar-related things you can find on the internet.

thats a good suggestion too. you can find ALOT of lessions and whatnot at different places just search for 'guitar lessions' or if you want a specific technique you can search for say "sweeping guitar lessions"

if you cant get soemthing at first though dont give up. also if your learning a solo or faster part i would suggest playing it slowely till you can play it accuratly then speed it up to the tempo of the song

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

Dosen't matter how much natural talent (or lack thereof) you have, if you don't practice it ain't gonna work.

I've been playing about 11 years now and I gotta say that the first year was the hardest. After that first year it's like something clicked and I started learning stuff a whole lot faster.

agreed i remember trying to learn songs in that first year, then going back and learning them much later and thinking to myself 'this gave me trouble?!'

SUPERDUTY, if you find any good websites or books or anything to learn from send me a PM or something. I got an Ibanez, it's pretty decent. Then again I don't know much about guitars.
