My buddy's new Dodge Ram

Well, last Saturday my friend traded in his 2001 Mercury Mointaineer for a new Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. Today he calls me up and tells me that his transmission has already gone on him. I get to where he parked it, and we take my car over to my mechanic's shop. He lets is borrow his brand new F-250 4x4 Dually Supercrew and his auto trailer.

So we get back to the lot the Dodge is in, and I try to put this thing in neutral. I had to go into the backseat and use all my strength plus a crowbar to pull this thing into neutral. You could hear the gears breaking in the transmission as I did this.

So we roll up to the Dodge dealership in this large F-250, towing this Dodge Ram 1500. I am wearing a Ford hat and a Ford t-shirt, with a big *** eat **** smile on my face. My friend? He's wearing a Dodge hat and a Dodge Hemi t-shirt, and his head is down.

The mechanics were pissed off that we brought it back in a Ford, some of them called me some stuff. I just told them that the truck I was driving hasn't had any transmission problems, but my buddy's brand new Dodge needs a new transmission, and it doesn't even have 100 miles on it.

In the end, my friend got his Mercury back and we went down to the Ford dealership. He's now driving a new F-150 STX 4x4. Dodge lost another customer due to their crap transmissions.

Great story, glad he finally got into a real truck. BTW ford doesn't make a F-250 dually.

I'm calling BS. Just doesn't sound plausible at all.

You had to use a crowbar to move the shifter? You heard gears in the tranny breaking, yet didn't break the shifter off, didn't break the shift cable, and didn't break whatever you were prying on.

Next, I highly doubt that any Dodge dealership mechanics would call you "some stuff" because you brought it in with a Ford. I highly doubt that they would give a crap.

So I don't buy the whole premise of the story, and your account of the events is highly suspect by me.

Troll on elsewhere.

I doubt that any dealer, Dodge, GM..even Ford, would take back a near new or even a used vehicle with damaged goods, and then give the person his old car back. That's totally implausible.

btw: Dodge dealers, or anyone else wouldn't look askance at a Ford towing in a Dodge, since many tow trucks are Fords.

Since new vehicles have warranties, so why didn't this supposed new Dodge owner just call the dealership and let them handle the situation? Dealers arrange for towing daily, issue PO's for the towing, a copy of the towing bill is then stapled to the warranty repair order. Bottom line = Dodge woulda paid for everything.

The whole story smells, and what smells ain't hay!

I dont know what year it is, he just says "new" ram... What year did they start offering the lifetime powertrain warranty? I am sure it would have been covered.

The person supposedly bought a new Ram, which before the Lifetime Warranty was offered, would have had a warranty of 3/36, which covers the entire vehicle during that time frame (3 years; 36K miles = whichever occurs first), plus the powertrain warranty is 5/50 (or 5/60..not sure which) so it wouldn't make any difference whether it had a lifetime warranty or not. The vehicle would be covered....unless it was damaged by negligence, or required body repairs.

This Chrysler Lifetime Warranty (L/TW) only covers the original purchaser, it can't be transfered if the vehicle is sold to another.

The L/TW is only offered on certain (read = slow selling) vehicles. Not all Chrysler products have it. You can't get the L/TW on Ram 2500 models with a Cummins Diesel, or on SRT models, Vipers, prolly others.

btw: Some ppl believe the manufacturers warranties cover collision damage!

Not so.

Your friend manage to get it from drive to park quite fine (which is just nuetral with the parking prawl engage), but you had to use a crow bar to get into nuetral? You would have broken the shift lever, shift cable, and probably damanged the steering colum. Dodge has slowly been improving too, their newer automatic transsmissions are getting better.

Plus, you don't tow a 4x4 with the transmission in nuetral, you tow it with the transfer case in nuetral. You were wearing a ford hat and a ford shirt, and your friend was wearing a dodge shirt, and a dodge hat!?

Next time at least try when you make up a story

What people will tell to try and sound good. I know a few guys with manual trans in Dodges & they haven't had any problems. Getting in the back seat pushing sure couldn't be an auto trans. Then I believe you have to go to a 2500 to get a 6 sp.
