After searching the net my head is dizzy on how hard it is to change the heater core on a 2001 F150 4.6. Many say that you have to remove the dash, steering column, and passenger airbag to do the job. While I have heard a few reports that post 1999 ford went to a much easier design and you on dont have to remove the dash, but just remove the glove box to access the the bolts/components. Can someone clear this up for me?
The shop manual still shows removal of the instrument panel.
"NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be leak-tested before it is removed from the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00 .
Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .
Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03A .
Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 .
Compress the holding tabs and disconnect the heater water hoses (18472) at the heater core (18476"
Just to verify for anyone following this. Yes on a 2001 F150 you still have to remove the dash or pull it back to remove the heater core. I guess they just dont make em like they used to
