Long term durability?

Long term durability?
I'm considering a 2005 or 2006 6.0 truck. I want to have the ability to tow better than my current V10 and I like the updates to the 05+ trucks.
My main concern is the durability of this engine past the warranty period. If I pull the trigger I want to keep it for many years. I know a lot of people say to dump the 6.0 after the warranty is up.
What is the long term picuture for this engine? Will it hold up over time or is it doomed to have head gaskets and other issues cropping up in later years?

I have an '05 6.0L and have 49,000 on it. Build date was 10-04. We picked it up on 10-29-04. I've had no issues or problems with it other than the "30 sec. Buzz Flash" to purge injectors after shut-down, and the carrier bearing went south at 35995 mi. Still warrateed, so no biggy. We bought this truck (F250 4X4SC e/w TorqShift,3:73 LS) on the pretense that it would be our "horse" 'til we got done traveling. I tow a 12,800 lb. 5th wheel with it. The only thing that I don't care for is the trans. shifts down to early for open road driving. Mostly in cruise, so I drive it with my foot instead and am able to control shifts much better. I have been inquiring about a new '08 6.4L with exactly the same configuration as this one, but that remains to be seen. I had an '01 7.3L that kind of spoiled me, but I'm slowly getting over it.
