Bah, all the big companies have fuel surcharges now and are actually turning a profit off it.

However, owner-operators are really getting kicked in the nuts, I feel sorry for those guys.

Also, I sure don't see my road taxes at work much. The roads suck all over the place. And how long is it gonna take them to finish that damn I-79 corridor in fairmont? They've been working on it for over a year and I don't see much progress from where it was a year ago!

the fuel surcharge just gets you back to where you were supposed to be -- freight rates are way too cheap -- i look on a load board almost daily and we call about loads and the rates are at just about break even

I still haven't figured out how the O/Os are making anything.

Ooops,
I just filled up again last night, 3.559 a gallon.

That would have made a 5000 dollar difference in my yearly fuel bill.
185,000 instead of 180,000.

How are owner operators making it?
Look at all the trucks and complete rigs setting around for sale.
And no one is buying them either.

we get fuel surcharge on a lot of what we haul to the concrete plant -- the quarry has raised rates slightly but they are still not where they need to be -- i burn $400 - $500 worth a day

Awhile back I read an article about fuel surcharges, and it gave JB Hunt (I believe it was) as an example...said they were making a few million a year off their fuel surcharges.

Of course, that was before diesel was $3.50 a gallon.

i'm sure they are making a few million - it's not just off the surcharge though - if you bid a freight haul at x many dollars per mile and the price of fuel goes up $2 per gallon for example then they add a fuel surcharge to put you back in the profit range you would have been at before - it just helps recoup the added cost

We were talking to a guy that has about 40 trucks running freight out of Buchannon.

10,000 dollars a day is his fuel bill on average.

30,000 payment sent in every three days or they shut his fuel account down.

we just got an 11% surcharge on gravel going to longview power plant for central -- it will average out to $14 more per load -- that will give the boss between 70 and 100 dollars per day for fuel, i don't get my percentage for that it goes to him just for fuel and now there will be some profit in that haul -- who were you talking too someone from buccaneer?
