[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Feb-02 AT 10:21 AM (EST)]OK, Code 301 (misfire #1 cylinder). Changed plugs. drove a week, started missing, Changed wires, still missing, finally got an error code, 304 code (#4 cylinder misfire) Checked #4 plug almost destroyed...porcelain and electrode almost completely gone (plug a week old). started and ran engine without plug hoping to blow any debris out. Put new plug in, still getting 304 error code, checked spark, looked good, replaced coil pack for that group of cylinders, has spark (knocked the snot out of me), still missing, still getting error code 304.
If your plugs are burning up in a week, you must have a very lean mixture. Definitely check out the fuel system. Be carefull, lean mixtures like this can burn holes in your pistons! Good luck!
Only 1 plug burned up and it could've been damaged when I got it or as I put it in (#4 cylinder is a little hard to get to). If my mixture was too lean I could expect other cylinders to have problem couldn't I?
It appears that your orginal problem was the #1 cyclinder, then the #4 cyc. You have eleminated the plugs, wires and the coil. I believe that a compression test or pressure test to check the head/head gasket would be a good next point.
