Ford Adding Leather after the fact?

Need Opinions,

This post is not really for the Expedition forum but it kinda relates with when I bought my new expedition. When I was shopping around for my new Expedition....one of "Needs" that was very important was leather seats...(easier cleaning with kids). Ford wanted to sell me an 07 Expedition XLT with cloth and they were going to add the leather after the fact. I asked them "Are you going to put in new Ford seats in?" They said no...they take it someplace to get the seats redone. I said ...no way..and went with what I have now ..08 XLT with factory leather. Fords point of view is they thought they were doing me a favor....I ended up getting the 08 XLT with more options cheaper!

Situation:

My brother is looking at a 08 Ford Edge SEL and the dealer told them they would put leather in it after the fact. I told my brother about our experience with that and he said he would check on it for his deal...and that he would only except factory ford leather seats. He called back yesterday and said that he told them he only wants factory leather seats.... "new Ford Edge seats put in"....dealer writes on the contract...."dealer owes you leather seats". I don't think the dealer is going to put in factory leather in that car. Do you all think they would....or are they going to get the seats redone in leather?

Just trying to save my brother some heartache.

I suggested he go with the Prem package for that model and then he would have what he wants plus alot more features. I told him the dealer is just trying to sell him and his wife a car...and they will do or say things to make you feel good in the end...but not what you really wanted...in my experiences.

Just curious........and interested in your thoughts

The dealership is pretty lame IMO. That is stupid to either re-cover or put in new Ford leather seats. Can you say $$$$$$$$$? I would think that the dealership would try to find some way to weasel out of it or something.

Thanks for the reply MisterCMK,

I spoke to my brother just a few ago and he is going to speak with his sales man today and verify everything...and get it all in writing. I told my brother that I had a post on a Ford Forum to get some thoughts on the subject...he told me to pass any good info on..

Thanks again,

B

Why doesn't the dealer just dealer trade with another dealer?? My dealer does that all the time to get the customers the exact vehicle they want.

They got as close to it I guess...and then wanted to put leather in. I just spoke to my brother and it was as I suspected...they send it off to a place to get recovered.

I told my brother shop around or have them find one like you suggested...dealer trade. OR ...order it the way you want it!

Well, if the 3rd party installs full leather seats they should be better than factory. It's no secret Fords 'leather seating area' seats are not the best. You get about 15% leather, the rest vinyl. The leather they do use has become thinner and thinner over the years.

His seats will probably end up being better than factory.

I did mention to him....get them to show him an example or take him to the shop that will do it and check out there work...if he does go that route. And make sure it would be covered under warranty of the suv...or that Ford would back the shops work.

I would skip leather all together and order neoprene from wet okole or coverking. They are 100% better than leather, cool in the summer and warm in the winter and require no extra care like leather. They are custom made and colored to what you order, and far more comfortable than leather. You can do two rows of your expedition for about 500-600. Waterproof, dog hair comes right off, great for outdoors.
