I have 250 miles on this truck but 9mpg?

OK I'm hoping and praying the motor is tight with only 250miles on it - I WAS getting 7.5mpg, and this tank I'm getting 9.3-9.8mpg .... errrr wtf? LOL okay I knew it was a pig but 9? My 6.0 was getting 16 all day long

So is it a matter of breaking in? remember it only has 250 miles on the odometer, or is it a problem? I figured I would see 12-13mpg mixed but this is no where close.

Just curious

For the record... 9, 7, 22, 10mpg.... who cares, this is by far the best feeling truck I have driven, the motor is flawless and I've heard mainly positive words from others on this forum - nice job ford!

No break in....these 6.4s are just fuel Removed by Admin...but they sure got the power and pull like a tractor. I'm only getting 9.5 to 10mpg no matter how I drive so I just drive it like I stole it and enjoy the power.

I read on another forum that it is a break-in routine in the ECM and the mileage should be better after 10 or 12 thousand miles.

Yes indeed check the tires. I found mine to be 55 put 80 all around, helped ALOT. Also the front hubs were on manual. So much for dealer pre delivery.

I just jump in and drive it, when fuel gets low, I fill it up or drive one of my other vehicles. What you gonna do, it is what it is..

I wanted a big truck, not a VW rabbit... just my .02 cents

Well holy bat guano .... ok so I'm at the dealer. The truck has been getting better, and I mean that literally - with 12 miles it did 7.5mpg combined.... with 200 miles it was at 10 combined. Now to the dealer - he checks it out and on the way home averaged 14.5mpg on the highway. So what happened? not much

First, thank you - in fact the truck had been delivered with the tires at 60psi so I had them up it to 75psi where noted on the sidewall.

Second, the first tank was possibly due to one hub being locked, and one being in auto - found that 65 miles later bringing the truck home. Talked to the dealer about that one.

Third, and Volony? the Service Manager is telling me that the ECM is programmed and I should see an increase in mileage at 3, 6, and 10k miles as the motor breaks in - that it's a programmed cycle - are my eyes turning brown for a reason?

So thats the scoop - a combination I think but I love the thing just the same - no flames from the tailpipe but ricers in the rearview (just once - I had to! LOL) @ 400 miles now and I'm looking forward to that first oil change

My first tank got 11mpg. 2nd tank got 12mpg 3rd tank 10mpg(18 year son drove it for a couple of days ). so far on the 4th tank the computer is saying 14.6mpg. I am babying it alot. trying to keep the boost around 10 and gliding as far as I can to a stop. The last two tanks I put Diesel Kleen in the tank.

I have done 2 tanks with diesel kleen ......not sure it helps. I have a run up the freeway and back I have done for years, set cruse at 65 and at 70 both and maybe helps .5 mpg. I think it is break even with cost.
10 mpg at 18year old not bad..I would have gotten about 3 mpg at that age.
