I just replaced my engine '82 4.9L, and now it won't idle correctly. I can hear the exhaust leak and a vacuum test shows a leak at the intake manifold. I took it to the dealer for some analysis and was told the manifolds are warped. At $295 for exhaust and $350 for the intake. Can a machine shop straighten them out? Or do I start cruising the wrecking yards for used ones? Which is the better option?
Thanks,
Monte
When I had my '84 warp problem, I found it was better to put junk yard ones on. Of course due to the pollution controls, I found many a pair that did not have the O2 sensor on them (Pre-'84). Set cost me $45, & a gasket kit was about $15.
I thought of trying to straighten it, but then thought of the aggervation of "if it goes bad again". So worry wise, I chose to go with the known good replacement rather then the unknown repair.
Hope this helps
Walter
