brakes hiss when driving

Team, another question....

My 2001 Ford Escape V6 hisses every time I release the brake pedal. There’s this hissing sound like leaking air coming from the below the dash near the brake pedal. It actually started a few months ago and comes and goes and was very minor but now it’s louder and happens every time the brake pedal is released. The hissing sounds continues even after my foot is completely off the brake and I’m on the gas pedal. It hisses for a while and when I step on the brakes again it stops but then starts up once I start releasing the brakes again.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it a repair I can do myself. The brakes seem fine enough....

the shaft seal on the brake booster is leaking, change it out before it becomes a problem.

I am replacing the grommet on the booster. Had to special order it. When I adjusted the vacuum hose, the hissing became considerably less. I am hoping that will take care of the leak, if not I might have to replace the entire booster. Is the shaft seal something that can be replaced by itself instead of changing the entire booster?
