iced in and out

1988 Bronco II 2.9 ,4spd auto,4X4....ok I work midnight shift and the other morning I came out from work to frost on the wind shield...no problem I scraped the ice off the out side got in and the inside was just as icey so I scraped it...I`ve also noticed that the entire inside of the cab seems to fog up on cold days and the other night I went to go to work and the inside windows were covered with water (actually had to wipe her down with paper towels)...any ideas as to what would cause this?

Assuming that you had let the engine run with the heater/defroster on to warm up the vehicle, it usually means that snow/frost got sucked in through the defroster and blown about the interior (especially windows, dash). as it warmed this melted and voila! Happens a lot in snow country when the vehicle isn't garaged.

1) Leaking heater core

2) heater box clogged with leaves etc. and dripping water under the pad on the pass. side.

3) water leaking into pass. compartment, getting heated on the floor and vaporizing while inside and the car is still warm.

4) vents in door blocked or not working (fell off).

My '87 did the same thing when I used to keep it parked under a maple tree. Those little Maple seeds fell through the vents in the cowling and plugged the drain holes under the wiper mechanism. Moister would find its way into the cab and condensate on the dash and windows. It wasn't to bad until the weather started freezing then I would get the same problem with frost/ice on the inside. I didn’t realize what the problem was until a spring rainstorm drained my battery while I was driving to work with the wipers on; the water level under the cowling had raised so high that it was pouring into the cab and shorting out the wiper motor. I cleaned out the drain vents and never parked under a tree again. I haven’t had any problem with moisture, rain, frost or ice in the cab sense but the damage was already done and my floor board is now all rusted out from the inside.
