LAKE PIPES ... how do they work?

I was looking at different pictures of lake pipes and I like the look of them ...

but they all have caps on the end of the pipes... where does the exhaust go?

More often than not they are setup like long exhaust cutouts. Hook them up to the exhaust, then take the covers off when you want to be loud.
