John Wood tranny in and it's fantastic!

My previous thread seen here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...my-tranny.html didn't get much attention, but I just wanted to update the info and let you guys know I now have a built tranny from John Wood in the Ex.

My old transmission toasted the one-two clutches and John built me a PERFECT transmission.

Gotta love a guy who acts like he's in a playground while he builds a transmission, telling you about all the R & D he's done to perfect the 4R100 for us.

His customer service is second to none too.

He set up the valve body shift parameters perfectly too. Since it's my wifes daily driver, and our tow-hog for the 10K lb TT we have, John set the valve body up to shift crisply, but as smooth as butter with no jarring effect!

It's definitely not like the valve body set up in my Lightning (same 4R100), which hits hard at WOT!

Damn he's good!

Well, that sucks. Now you can't put a martini in the RV and have it "Shaken, not stirred".

Not always. Try ATS. You pay big bucks for their trans but you cannot use any non-approved programs or your warranty is void. So why am I paying big bucks for the same warranty that Ford gives? With Ford, I can go to ANY Ford shop and get warranty work but with ATS, I cannot. If it was Ford or ATS, I'd go Ford.

Depends on what stage you run.

I'm not sure how accurate the prices are on his website anymore. The tranny I was going to get back in August went up by $200 bucks because Ford upped the price on a part by $200 bucks.

I'd give JW a call and price one out with him, if you are at all serious.

I'll just drive over the bott dots separating the lanes in the road for that!

BTS is still $3900. What you want depends on what you need it for. Would I recommend JW or BTS if you want a stock truck and are planning to sell it? Not a chance. Get AAMCO or whatever is cheapest to get it down the road.

Personally, while I have heard good things about JW, I tend to be hesitant to recommend him ONLY because I have never talked to him or had his product and I don't like to recommend stuff I have no experience with. I'm sure he builds a good product based on other reports here but without personal experience, I tend to be slower on the recommendation. With BTS, they gave me credit for the VB I bought from them after it sat baking in hot burnt trans fluid with all the lovely debris floating around, plus I have been to their shop for work and have their BO and trans. Again, I am not taking away from JW. Just that I don't know him whatsoever.
