I need help. I have an 03 Ex, and my headlights wont shut off. The only way to get them both off is if I unhook the battery. I pulled every fuse out of the block, and nothing, I could only get the passenger side to shut off. I figured it is either a relay, or the switch, but a friend of mine told me its the fuse block. He said it is very common with excursions and that the part is 300 bucks!!! Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?
I turn the truck off, make sure the light switch is turned to off, (it also has the auto. light which I dont have turned on). I can still turn on/off the foglights, but the headlights simply wont shut off. I take out the keys, and I could come back in 2 hours and they are still on. A friend also told me about a centenial switch that some have where you can adjust how long your lights stay on after you shut off your truck. He said that could be broke, I looked for it, couldn't find anything like that, so I dont know if that is the problem. I simply pulled the bulbs out so my wife could still drive during the day. I dont have 500 bucks for this shop to try to fix it with X-mas here, so I have it rigged up for now. We have been driving my truck at night. I cant figure this thing out.
This is for my 2001, but it may be the same. You could give it a try and see if maybe the AutoLamp feture is hosed...
Quote:
Autolamp control (if equipped)
The autolamp system provides light
sensitive automatic on-off control of
the exterior lights normally
controlled by the headlamp control.
The autolamp system also keeps the
lights on for approximately 20
seconds after the ignition switch is
turned to OFF.
To program the autolamp feature, do the following:
1. Start with the ignition in OFF and the autolamps selected.
2. Deselect the autolamps.
3. Put the ignition in RUN.
4. Put the ignition in OFF.
5. Select the autolamps. Steps 2 through 5 must be performed within a
10 second period. At this point, the headlamps and parking lamps will
turn on.
6. Deselect the autolamps after the desired autolamp delay time
(maximum of 3 minutes). At this point, the headlamps and parking
lamps will turn off.
Foglamps are not controlled by the autolamps. In order to turn on the
foglamps, you must turn the lamp switch to the position and pull
toward you for fog.
The headlight swict (older) sucked. That would be my first place to look. Pull that swicth and like SFEIN said unplug it and see if they go off. I dont remember how much a new switch was but it wasnt $500.

Thanks a lot for the help. I have to work late tomorrow with Christmas coming up, so I wont get a chance to mess with it until Friday night. But I was thinking it was either the switch or a relay, I just haven't had the time to mess with it, I'm really hoping thats what it is.
I unplugged the switch, and still nothing, the lights still stay on. Like I said, the only way I can get these off so far is by pulling the battery or pulling the bulbs. I've pulled every single fuse in this truck, tried reseting the computers, everything. I am about to try the last idea of trying to reset the Autolamp control. I dont know if my truck has it or not, but I guess I'll find out. Its an 03' Limited 4-wheel drive. ANY HELP would be awesome, I'm stunned.
