Help! FMX problem

I am just about finished with a 289 and fmx swap in my 92 ranger. I bought this tranny used from a "friend of a friend". I trailered the truck to the exhaust shop and to my horror the truck will not roll in reverse. I had to take the driveshaft out to roll it off the trailer.
Is something wrong with my parking pawl? I am guessing that I will have to pull the tranny. If someone could point me in the right direction on what to look for I would appreciate it

If the pawl was the problem, you would experience it going forward too. I am not too familiar with the shift pattern on the FMX, is it the standard three speed type or does it have it's own specific pattern. It could be that you were just in another gear. Does it roll backwards in neutral? I would also check in with the guys in the tranny forum.

Welcome aboard! --Mike

Thanks. I missed the tranny section and will ask over there. It has the standard shift pattern. I tried several gears. The shift linkage is not hooked up yet

This might sound dumb, but if you are just rolling it, why not do it in neutral?

I tried everything. The truck rolled forward but not backwards. I'm going to fire it up when it gets back from the exhaust shop and see what in the world is going on.
