yeah, no black smoke in my 460, but i will argue that my 460 would out pull my 7.3, untill you needed a gas station, even on the long pulls the 460 would drop a gear and just go, once it kicked to 3rd it was unstoppable

that one was the loudest truck in town. no cat, and hollowed out glass packs. duals. it was a 90 model 5 speed. 2 wheel drive with 4.10s.

My wishlist has had stage 2's and a 17* pump along with a tw chip for a couple months now but i dont have 2500 bucks to invest right now
Just be glad it was a 351W and not a 351C. I had a 72 Ranchero from 1976 until 1996 and it had a 351c. It was a Chevy killer.

We can talk all the crap we want about Chevys, but you can not beat the SBC for $ spent and HP gained. Part interchange on the Chevy for ever until the 90s. If someone makes a "go fast" part it is for a SBC first. Hell you can buy SBC parts at the drug store, everyone has them. you start chasing Ford performance parts and the money climbs, if you can find the part. I do think a lot of this has changed now wwith stuff built from the mid 90s and up. Most of your street power is being done using computers and I think the cost is very close between Ford and Chevy. Maybe I have been away from it to long now.

The post about working out of a Ford Truck is true, but most of the guys working out of their truck are leaving them stock and turning them over every 3-4 years. The Ford truck has always had a much better ride.

Coon, it's ok man. what is the man purpose of your truck? Race? Work?, Pull?, Haul? I also had a f250, 460, 4speed, 4x4 1985 the truck had all kinds of power, but the best I ever got was 8mpg. I will gladly sacrifice some for 16mpg. My rig suits me fine. I want to do some more to it but nothin to radical.

side note how do I add a signature to my post?

and all that interchangeability lends to their POS syndrome. when one part fits all and all motors are same, thats not good. they none have the torque they need! you will wind up more $$$ in the Chevy than the ford if you try to do it anytime. those chevs just dont hold together many trip round the block. my .02

c00nhunterjoe-

Read the abaove and you'll remember what you are forgetting. Alot of guys with our trucks still think of them as race vehicles. You know damned well that anything that is great at the drag strip usually isn't much good for anything else, and our trucks are not great at the drag strip. The other truck just sucked you into playing their game. Next time that happens, accept their challenge, but with a few added tests-

hook a great big chain to both trucks and make them pull against you. Make sure that they know how to signal "I quit"

Next, put 10,000 pounds on a trailer behind each truck at the base of the mountain, then see who gets to the top first

After you get to the top of the mountain, put 5 gallons of fuel in each vehicle and see who can tow the trailer the farthest amount.

Their truck was only good at one thing and they knew it. Next time offer these challenges to them and put some money on it. I'll bet it turns out differently.

right, but all i am sayig is my 460 truck had all the comforts i needed to hand him his **** with no problems and i would have gotton the same fuel economy as him as well, plus been able to out do my diesel in all the other categories as well. its just a bit frustrating knowing i am so limited with the stock injectors yet the 460 took a half of a saturday and some old exhaust pipe and some 3 inch turbo tubes to gain 5 mpg and get teh truck into the high 14's on 315\75\16's. i am going to be burning my 4x4 vid's to dvd here this weekend so i will try to get some clips of the old beast uploaded. i know some of you have seen a pic or 2 of it but they dont do it justice, you have to see it in action to see how bad a truck it really was

I apologize for potentially hijacking this thread, but I am new to posting on this forum. I have been lurking for a while, even before I bought my 97, F250, 7.3l, 6 months ago. But I have a question for c00nhunterjoe. I have a 1986 f250, 460 monster for my biz, and I am wondering about the mods you mention about gaining mpg and the output. Can you give some links? Or pics? Or directions.
