You know perhaps im alone here I went to the local ford dealer the other day to look into buying a new truck. You wanna throw the salesman a curve ball. Ask to see a good old fashioned plain jane. I mean a brand new bread and butter for the contractor or homeowner on a budget kind of truck. They will laugh you right off the lot. In 1986 I bought a brand new f-150 straight six 4 spd and rubber floor cover for a grand total of 13,800. it was as good as any lariat with all bells and whistles. I think ford is missing the boat here and could pick up the same buyers that put them where they are today for a heck of lot less money to us. Any way I will wait and get on the list soon for my 09. cant beat em join em. BTW my o4 fx4 cost me 32,000.00 oh well
Maybe the dealership near you doesn't offer a basic work truck, but they sure do around here. Some dealers just don't care about offering lots of choices to customers and want the higher profit margins built into the heavy optioned trucks over the XL with nothing.

I bought my 2006 4.2 auto/air reg cab in Dec 2005 for $15,700 after all rebates. Used it as a company truck for two years and just traded it in for a 05 CC PSD F-350. They gave me back $11,700 on trade. That means it cost me $2000 a year in depreciation. The PSD I bought is a Lariet With EVERY option. It was $52,000 new and only has 10,600 miles on it now. I paid $31,000 for it. It cost the previous owner $10,500 a year to own in depriciation. Lesson learned I guess is that the 'Work Truck' is actually a better investment for a private owner. Business ownership is whole nother thing. Right offs are NICE too lol.
I hear you. I can't even order the setup I want, let alone someone have it in stock. And I didn't think I was being to picky. Just wanted a basic 2wd limited slip, with a 4.6L and a 5 speed. Can't get a manual transmision with the V8 anymore. To solve my problem, I am looking for a mid 90's truck if I have to replace the driveline when it wears out.

Ford cut back on the F-150 production. Thusly FEWER trucks on the lots. But you're right, Americans think owning a pick up truck is supposed to a cool toy. They NEVER use them for actual work like you do.
Well, I work at a dealership in a small town and its just not the type of thing we hae on hand. Sometimes people want them, but usually the people that buy them know what they're getting and don't need to see it. But I can understand where you're coming from. Heck, at our delaership, we wont even carry regular cab F150's, they just typically don't sell, and it cost lots of money to have a vehicle sitting on the lot for months on end.
I have noticed that many local small dealers and some big ones just don't carry to many of the xl trucks. I have bought a bunch of them. We use the reg cab, short bed, 4x4s. You think the ones yall are looking for are hard to find. I just bought one a couple months ago I had to call someone 13 hours away (closest person who had one) and bought it. They shipped it down to a dealer closer to me which was still 5 hours away. One day a dealer might have a bunch of them then the next day they wont have hardly none and wont be getting any for a while.

My company just bought 2 2007 F150 a 2x4 manual and a 2x4 auto . both v6 . But same dealer can't get a stripped down 4x4. for some reason.
Both reall nice ride well except for the dumb extra door. I like the manual get about 2 MPG more.
2 guys at work also bought them . Well 1 got it other ordered one with limited rear. HAve a good one.

I was told by someone at Ford that the number of people trying to purchase a manual transmission for an F150 is at 1%. Lots of people say they prefer a manual but their buying habits prove otherwise. Not saying that's you, but the reality there's very little reason for Ford to offer a wider selection of manuals.

This doesn't surprize me one bit. But they should offer at least 1 option.
Ford is the only one of the big 3 that does not offer a manual with a V8 right now. I actually went and looked and test drove a Chevy because I could get the 5.3L with a manual tranny and limited slip rear end. Had to refuse for obvious reason (they are ugly and its a chevy). I can also order this setup in a Dodge.
If i knew it would of been this hard to find one with a manual tranny, I would of kept the 92 and rebuilt the truck.
