Door ajar/dome light stuck on

Man am I glad I found this site and a lot of these forums! I just bought a 97 Ranger from a co-worker. Looks like the fuse had been pulled from the panel to keep the interior lights from coming on. And then I learned why - the interior lights stayed on no matter what I did. I even took out the whole light "fixture", learned that two of the screws make the electrical contact with the wiring, thought that the internal switch was defective and thought "how the H@$$ am I going to fix this??" I am going out to the truck now and spray it good with WD-40 (the cure all!) and see how it does overnight! I'll let you know how it works out. Wish me luck everyone! -

My switches work, the front two are new and the rears don't activate the light. However my door ajar light is always on, unless I open both front doors.
The switches are pretty easy to replace and aren't that expensive. I'd suggest replacing them when you go in for the door lock actuators.

Happy to report that it worked like a charm! I checked the small rocker switches in each door this morning and could see that their position had shifted from where they were last night - which was a good sign! I screwed the interior light unit all the way back in today, and within a minute the delayed timer (my Taurus does this too) shut the lights off. Like many others who have posted in other forums, there's an audible "click" from the relay under the dash and the light goes off. Thanks everyone for the extremely helpful and extremely simple solution!
